More ports and no modem included
The original Playstation didn't have something that N64 had all along. Nintendo's 64-Bit system was shipped with four controller ports ready to go. The installed ports motivated the developers to make more games that support more than just two players at the same time.
Although Playstation has the capability to support up to eight players, this could only be done using the accessory that splits up each controller port into four. This idea never really reached to the full gears, leaving us with very small library of multiplayer games that are mostly related to Sports. We know that Sony doesn't make the same mistake twice and they unsurprisingly confirmed that Playstation 2 will come with four controller ports. Tremendous power of its main chip and more memory, will allow the system to control many complex tasks simultaneously.
The confirmation was made at a developer meeting that recently took place in San Mateo Marriott. In addition to the previous news they revealed that unlike Sega's Dreamcast, Playstation 2 will not be bundled with a modem. This is clearly a good choice because it will lower the price of the system and the consumer will only pay for the modem if one wishes to and the access to the internet.
All parts of the future system were still installed into a regular dull box during the conference presentations. Desing is still the big mystery which should be revealed this September. In the previous article, I have mentioned that PSX 2 might use the VAIO theme which is currently used by Sony in the PC related products. We will see what happens in September.
