Dogfish enters SCEE first party.
Announced earlier this week, Dogfish has confirmed signing with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as a first party developer. The company was established in October 2000 by a group of former employees of Bullfrog.
Although not heavily publicized, Bullfrog has been responsible for Theme Park, Syndicate Wars, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper 2, Populous 3, Theme Park World, Constructor, Dark Omen and Wing Commander. Dogfish’s plans for a new PS2 title are distinct and they hope for a successful title. A date of 2002 is set for an anticipated ship date, as the new company is working hard for a completely original title. Specific details, however, are yet to be released.
"At Dogfish we know what makes the most successful games", Steven Metcalf, Managing Director and Designer, states. "You must have a fantastic concept with immediate appeal, a proven team, and a bulletproof plan to create it on-time and on-budget. We combine watertight, highly creative and instantly compelling designs, a world-class team, and meticulous planning to ensure that not only do we create the best-playing games, but also the best-selling."
In other words, the company hopes to make a long lasting trend of successful titles, and be a constant competitor in the gaming world.
"We have designed our first game to create an experience and name that may be built upon in future titles", says Metcalf. "Planning a game from the outset as the basis for a franchise gives us the opportunity to progressively build upon a successful foundation with a continually improving, evolving but proven gameplay experience."
