NY Race announced for PS2.
Kalisto has announced a futuristic racing game, NY Race, which has been inspired by Luc Bessomís film The Fifth Element. The game is set in a full 3D world, allowing players to explore every possibility in this freely developed environment. There will be over 30 vehicles to choose from, including the famous taxi and police car in The Fifth Element. Each car has different characteristics including speed, capacity, maneuverability, and bodywork, while incorporating a heavy arsenal of weapons. There will also be 12 circuits set in New York that are accessible for both the day and evening. Additionally, five power-ups based on five elements (water/bomb, fire/missile, air/acceleration boost, earth/collision shield, and a mysterious fifth element) can be collected on each track.
Different gameplay modes have also been revealed and provide several options to be explored. They include single-player modes that allow the choice of championship, single race, time attack, and eliminator. The two-player gameplay modes are championship and single race. Finally, the multiplayer modes, which feature support for up to eight players, are mini-championships and eliminator.
While previously developing an all out version of The Fifth Element for the Sony Playstation and PC platforms, Kalisto has strayed away from the action-adventure genre and has developed NY Race, a blend of racing and adventure for owners of the PS2, Game Boy Color, and PC platforms. With a scheduled November release date for the Playstation 2, expect a very distinct game with NY Race.
