DFC predicts PS2 as console leader
The intelligence department over at the DFC, a research firm that focuses on software entertainment, is heavily favoring the Playstation 2 as the overall leader in sales and following for the future. They have officially updated they’re report titled the US Market Video Games and Electronic Interactive Entertainment, and have taken an in-depth look at the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox. It is believed that over 60 million consoles will be sold by 2005 in the US alone, with the PS2 taking hold as the majority market leader. Although also detailed in the report is a strong competition between all three consoles, experts continue to side with Sony as having the most likely chance of winning the war of the consoles.
"We believe that over the next few years consumers will be spending a great deal of money on video and computer games," said David Cole, president of The DFC Intelligence. "Under most scenarios, the Sony PlayStation 2 is forecasted to be the leading system...the PlayStation 2 has the potential to be the best-selling game system ever."
As encouraging as these statements are, all is left in the hands of the consumers. With the Playstation 2 having a year head start on the competition, obviously they have the present advantage. However, what is most promising for the PS2 is the overwhelming list of games coming out during the release of both the GameCube and Xbox. An important decision is left with millions of people around the country, as a competitive holiday season is approaching. It will be interesting to discover what truly lies ahead in the wage between gaming communities, as a very bold prediction has already been made.
