Funcom throws in the console towel
It has been announced that the development company Funcom will no longer be producing games for any console platform released. Funcomís Dublin Studio had been previously working on Jet Sprint, a powerboat racer specific for the Xbox. In July of last year, the company announced that it had ceased in development for the PS2, and would fully concentrate on creating titles for the Xbox. However, after releasing Anarchy Online, Funcom feels it would like to solely focus on the PC platform, as it strives to represent the online community. The company believes the present consoles do not coincide with their long-term ideas for online gaming.
"Moving out of console development was a strategic decision that makes Funcom more focused as a company," Funcom president Andre Backen said. "Funcom has worked extremely hard to establish itself in the massively multiplayer online market, and this is where we have our strength."
