PS2 shipments approach 15 million
It has been discovered today that as of June 30, 2001, worldwide PS2 shipments have reached 14.95 million, proving again to be the fastest selling console in history. When broken down, Japan has received 5.94 million units, 5.15 million in North America, and 3.86 million in Europe. In terms of software, the PS2 has also posted impressive numbers. With a grand total of 49.8 million software units shipped, 20.3 million have gone to Japan, 19.3 million to North America, and 10.5 million to Europe. Although only showing shipment marks and not total sales, Sony still has a very large head start on both Microsoft and Nintendo. Expect over 15 million PS2ís to be in the homes of gamers before Sony sees any type of competition.
