We got our hands on the new PS2 ModChips.

Not too long ago I reported on the first PS2 Mod Chips to hit the streets. If installed, the first generation of PS2 Mod Chips would allow you to play copied PS and PS2 CD based games. The first chips that we had didn't break any regional barriers, meaning that still only Japanese games would work on the Japanese system.

A few days ago we received an express package from our friends at ModChip.com with new version of the chip that plays import games on the PS2 system. What does this mean? It means that if you have a Japanese PS2, you can use it to play American PSX games on it. As you can see in our picture, it is a larger chip than the previous one which makes the installation process a little longer.

These chips confirm that the Mod Chips are still evolving and they will be making huge waves in PS2 gaming. The chip that we have reported in this article is already for sale on ModChip.com.
