Take-Two delays two
Due to the recent tragic events that have taken place in New York and Washington D.C., Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have announced the delay of Grand Theft Auto 3 and Smuggler’s Run 2. Although GTA3 will undergo minimal changes and will only see a two-week delay, Rockstar is forced to change over one-half of SR2, as Afghanistan is the location for this portion of the game. Terry Donovan had this to say.
"Our decision is based on 2 factors, firstly it has been a little difficult to get work done in downtown Manhattan in the last week since basic communications infrastructure has been intermittent at best, and secondly we felt that a full content review of all our titles and the marketing materials we use to represent them was absolutely necessary for us in light of the horrifying event we all witnessed in the United States last week," explained Donovan.
"As for Grand Theft Auto, since the game is so huge the review is no short process. So far we have come across certain small contextual references that we were no longer comfortable with, as well as a couple of very rare gameplay instances that no longer felt appropriate to us. We apologize to you and all the people waiting for this game to ship for the delays that have now ensued, but I'm sure you can understand our reasoning. Rest assured the game will be phenomenal...and you can expect it to hit shelves in late October!
"With regard to Smugglers Run 2, the game was geographically located largely in Afghanistan, and contained numerous visual and audio references to the country. In light of the horrifying events in New York City we felt that is was no longer appropriate to release the game in its intended form. Again we apologize to the gamers who are avidly awaiting the title, but we are sure that they will all understand our desire to ensure that our games are something we feel comfortable and proud releasing. As ever, we really appreciate your continued support."
