Activision and Gamespy bring extra online support to THPS3
Activision and Gamespy will be teaming up together to bring online support for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 as the PS2’s first online multiplayer title. Players will be able to go against 3 other people as they choose from eight different environments throughout the game. THPS3 is set to be released October 30, 2001 and will support the Netwrok Adapter as well as numerous other third-party peripherals utilizing the USB port.
“The power of the PlayStation 2, combined with GameSpy’s leading matchmaking technology, will ensure that players have a fantastic online gaming experience,” said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. “By introducing an online component to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise, we are not only upping the ante in the action sports category but in console gaming on the whole.”
“GameSpy is thrilled to provide the flexible, cross-platform GameSpy.Net technology for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3,” said Mark Surfas, CEO / Founder of GameSpy Industries. “GameSpy.Net tools and backend services remove the burden of developing and maintaining matchmaking systems and back-end services from the game developer or publisher's shoulders. Ultimately, developers and publishers save time and money with GameSpy.Net tools."
