Rumors squared: DOA 3 and The Fast and the Furious on PS2?

Welcome to rumors squared. This is a brand new feature that will be added to the news section every time PSX Extreme receives credible information from credible sources close to Sony or 3rd party companies. The information here will be in relation to game cancellations, future game plans, or other gossip worthy unofficial announcements! The two following stories are a great way to premiere this feature. Stay tuned for more things to come!

Dead or Alive 3 on PS2?

Scouring the World Wide Web out of boredom, you are always bound to run into something completely shocking and unexpected -and no, I'm not talking about porn sites. Hmm…then again there is a relation between that and this premier article, but that's another story. I decided to visit Tecmo's online site ( and check out the press section. Upon entry of the index page, I noticed something peculiar. There was a small rectangular image with the words "Dead or Alive 3 coming soon for Playstation 2" embedded underneath the DOA3 logo. Chances are, I would've waved it off if it was another game, but this is Dead or Alive 3! And no Webmaster could possibly make a slip and write that arguably the biggest Xbox launch title is being released on the PS2 "soon". I refreshed my browser, and it was still there. So I decided to set my Internet Explore to refresh the Tecmo page every 3 minutes. Eventually after about an hour and a half the message cleared and stated "coming soon for Xbox." Well that was October 2nd, 2001. Later on I ran into something yet again!

I'm looking at all of the finalized Xbox game covers, games such as Fusion Frenzy, Amped, Project Gotham Racing and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee clearly have imprints on the top of the casing saying "Only on Xbox." Looking at the DOA3 cover, there's nothing to be found. And make note: these are the actual covers, not mock-ups. And thirdly (this is what pretty much convinces me and solves the puzzle that DOA3 is indeed coming to the PS2) Computer and Videogames recently conducted an interview with Sandy Duncan, who is the Vice President of Xbox Europe, he pretty much commented on the possibility of DOA3 being released on the PS2. The following is a direct quote as said by Sandy Duncan during the interview: "They may at some stage do a DoA3 for PS2." Let's see, I've stated three points, all of which are incredibly credible and add up to one thing: Dead or Alive 3 may very well be released on the PS2 next year. That, in a sense, almost seems like a guarantee with all of these little “clues” that I’ve gathered.

The Fast and the Furious speed onto the PS2

A few incredibly reliable sources, close to Universal Interactive Studios, have made a statement in regards to a videogame title based on the hit summer blockbuster movie "The Fast and the Furious". The movie, which raked in nearly $150 million dollars during its presence in the box office, is being focused to be released on the PS2. Keep in mind, the status of the game's development progression isn't very clear, meaning it could be in either feasible stages (being thought of how to be developed, still on paper, etc.) or in very early coding stages (project, pre-alpha or early alpha). The Fast and the Furious was probably my favorite movie of the summer, it built an adrenaline rush I've never experienced from watching any movie at all! It makes things only more interesting as to how the game will play out on the PS2, and if official car licenses such as Nissan, Volkswagen, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Mazda will be used. But rest assured, it looks like a PS2 title based on The Fast and the Furious is indeed in some form of development. Now the only thing left to do is wait for an "official" press release from Universal Interactive Studios. More as the story develops!
