Sierra has made it official that Half-Life will be shipping to retailers nationwide next week. The shipment date has been announced as November 14th, which is 'Solid Snake day' for every red-blooded PS2 owner in the country. Half-Life is of course one of the greatest first person shooters on the PC that features possibly the best single-player story experience. The title and its various spin-offs have practically become synonymous with the FPS genre. Thankfully, PS2 owners can experience everything and more from this fully upgraded version of Half-Life, such as new deathmatch and co-op maps, new modes, and an overhauled visual engine that makes its PC brethren look like child's play. In-fact the visual detail is four times of the PC version!
"The Half-Life franchise on the PC has received unprecedented support from both its fans and the press alike, winning well over 50 Game of the Year awards from publications around the world," said Mike Ryder, president at Sierra. "Working with Sony to take full advantage of their technologically advanced next-generation system, I believe we've set the stage for Half-Life for the PlayStation 2 to make another significant impact on the gaming world."
"This is the definitive version of Half-Life," said Randy Pitchford, president and director of Gearbox Software. "With the graphically enhanced award-winning original, head-to-head combat mode, and Decay, the exclusive cooperative mission, it is like three games in one."
To be honest, Sierra has put themselves in a harsh position. They're going toe-to-toe with arguably the largest and most anticipated videogame release ever: Metal Gear Solid 2. But who knows, maybe FPS fans will come through and put Half-Life on the sales charts. As an avid gamers I'm looking forward to the release of Half-Life. Stay posted for more, as I will do my best to get around reviewing the title.
