Special edition PS2 units sell out in Japan

As previously reported by PSX Extreme, Sony is planning to release the limited edition PS2 units in Japan sometime in the next couple weeks. With the colors ranging from white, silver, yellow, blue, and red, many people have become very excited about this special set of consoles. The PS2s are to commemorate the shipping of more than 20 million PS2 units worldwide and have brought about a great stir in the gaming community. Sony began taking preorders for the units today and sold out in a matter of minutes. Japan had an initial quantity of 666 PS2 consoles and every unit has been accounted for by order. The systems cost $415 each, which is far greater than the price of a regular PS2 at $299. Sony plans to bring the campaign to North America and Europe next year, as they hope for similar results seen in Japan.
