Videogame industry is booming
According to a report by the NPD research group, the video game industry has generated $4.9 billion in the first nine months of 2001. This number is up 34 percent from last year and does not account for either the Nintendo GameCube or the Microsoft Xbox. It is predicted by industry analysts that at the end of this next year revenues will surpass $6.1 billion. These sales numbers would break the previous record set in 1999.
Nintendo has already begun the year in profitable numbers, as they lead software sales with five out of the top 10 best-selling games. Also in the list of 10 games are Sony, Activision, and Electronic Arts.
