Videogame rentals up 36.5%
It was reported today that videogame rentals have risen 36.5 percent in the first week of January over the same period last year, and that the Playstation 2 holds all positions in the top 5. For the week ending Jan. 6, game rental revenue was at $22.6 million, up from $16.6 million a year earlier. Also, the top five games collected $3.4 million in rentals during the week and have earned $26.1 million since they were released between early October and late November.
Gran Theft Auto 3 remains at the #1 spot for game rentals, as it has earned $1 million in the week and $9.3 million since its Oct. 3 release. GTA3 has been the #1 rented game for over a month now.
On a side note, since the Xbox and GameCube have been released, neither console has had a title reach the top 5 in games rented. (shocked?)
