Britney's Dance Beat Preview
Let's face it, it was rather inevitable that a game like this would be made at one point or another. Britney Spears has been on top of the pop-world for a good three years now and is turning into an icon. Last year THQ bought the license to miss Britney Spears, and they have obviously put it to use right away.
Britney's Dance Beat's basic premise is somewhat like a Dance Dance Revolution or Bust-a-Groove title. However, the basic goals and objectives are something that you wouldn't expect. Using common sense, one would think that he or she would control Britney, but that is far from the truth. In actuality, you will take the roll of one of six hopeful dancers with your sights set on becoming one of Britney's back-up dancers.
The gameplay mechanics are built around a clock-type face at the bottom left side of the screen. There are different button commands spread throughout the clock-like circle and a hand that steadily rotates around it -- like a hand on a clock. As the hand reaches a designated command, you will then press the corresponding button, which will initiate a certain dance move. With me so far? Also, during head-to-head mode, if you successfully execute a lot of the commands correctly, your opponent will then get his or her buttons on the clock switched around, giving him or her a more difficult task at succeeding.
The graphics are a bit of a mixed bag. They aren't anything completely horrible, but the overall simplistic design does leave us wanting a little more. In the background, a huge monitor is shown which displays Britney dancing in real-life, while the players and backgrounds, which were rendered from polys, are fairly plain.
It's quite evident that a title like this will sell regardless of the quality. Though, hopefully this won't be just another license rip-off for a quick cash-in because nobody likes those. Britney's Dance Beat is currently scheduled for a May 8th release.
