Pac-Man Fever Preview
Pac-Man shortly arrived on the PS2, starring in his first 128-bit 3D adventure. Fear not, though, because Namco is already well at work at another game starring the lovable dot-eater. Although, his latest adventure joins the Mario Party and Crash Bash crews, in his very own mini-game frenzy, Pac-Man Fever.
Pac-Man Fever looks great from a visual standpoint. The levels are lush with color and chock-full of wacky background objects to set a better tone for the experience. Pac-Man looks great, as do all the others, and all the characters will be relatively the same size. In addition, players will don powerful weapons, which are also coming through nicely.
In this board-game-driven title, Pac-Man and his comrades hope to unlock scores of mini-games -- over 30 in all -- to unravel the story. Numerous ghosts have stolen the mini-games, and as you and your friends delve into them, you'll then be able to unlock them -- and in the long run, the story.
The concept isn't completely original, but Namco is promising some pretty nice features. First and foremost, Pac-Man Fever doesn't just have characters from the Pac-Man adventures, but instead, it boasts characters from many of Namco's acclaimed titles -- Tekken, Ridge Racer, Soul Calibur.
Most of the levels should bring back memories from you favorite Namco games, as most of them are based around particular places from their assortment of titles. In addition, some brand new locales will be included, such as a dark forest. Likewise, there's a whole slew of Namco icons that will be featured in this outing. Some of the confirmed characters include Pac-Man, Mrs. Pac-Man, Pac-Man ghosts, Astaroth (Soul Calibur), Heihachi (Tekken), Tiger/Eddy Gordo (Tekken), and Reiko Nagase (Ridge Racer). Many more characters will be announced at a later date.
It's nice to see that this scarce genre will at least get one title this year. If Namco can create some mini-games that are on par with those found in the Mario Party games, then we'll probably be looking at a entertaining game. We'll have more for you at a later date, such as a full list of characters. Until then, stay tuned.
