Scheduled release date:

July 2002

Release Date:

Debuting last year with NCAA Football 2002, EA published easily one of the best college football games to hit store shelves. The game was blessed with critical acclaim, matching the efforts of the peerless Madden series. The two games are almost identical in terms of gameplay; however, there is just something about the college atmosphere and magnitude that makes the new NCAA Football series endearing on multiple levels. Developed by Tiburon, the game will now be released across all three consoles and will be improved upon drastically, eliminating even the smallest of problems.

One of the nice features of NCAA Football 2003 is the fact that anyone from anywhere can basically choose their favorite college team. With 144 different teams, Tiburon made sure that even the smallest of universities were represented. Also, the amount of realism that is presented concerning each team and their respectable stadium is amazing. The fight songs are perfectly illustrated and offer numerous variables concerning when you will hear them. Inclusively, there are 127 Division 1-A teams and 27 Division 2-A squads.

Along with including almost every team imaginable, Tiburon has developed a Create-A-School mode. I don't know about you, but I'm absolutely excited to create my school's team and format their uniforms to match. When players do this, they are forced to choose a team to eliminate in order to keep the magic school number at 144; so if you want to create 5 teams from your own area, be prepared to eliminate 5 authentic schools as well. Another nice facet of the game lies in the newly added My Team feature. Players are allowed to choose their favorite college team so whenever the game is started you will be greeted with your school colors and mascot. This will be a very nice addition that adds a little personality to the game.

The Dynasty mode is back in full fledge and effective as ever. The ability to play through with a team for 10+ years and establish a group of players with respect and honor is NCAA Football's greatest asset. Also, with the Dynasty mode, after four solid years each of your players will be recognizable by name, a personal attribute that makes the game more pleasing. Also, a customizable preseason schedule will be available, as it is a mode that is similar to what real coaches are forced to handle. Do you choose to face some hefty competition to prepare for the end of the season, or do you choose poorly skilled teams so you can pad your record in hopes of a Bowl bid. Every one of these options is perfectly delivered in NCAA Football 2003, triggering it to be the best college sports title ever released.

The Trophy Room is a feature that seems to be attracting the attention of many. As you progress through a season, or dynasty especially, each Conference Championships, National Titles, and even Heisman Trophies are stored on your user profile so you can vast in the glory of your ways. This is a brilliant extra, as it will allow players to see exactly what they've done throughout their college career. Rivalry trophies are also an important part of this, since teams will be vying for the rights of their prestigious monument, such as Paul Bunyan's Axe between Minnesota and Wisconsin, and the Old Brass Spittoon amongst Indiana and Michigan.

NCAA Football 2003 is shaping up to be one of most explosive sports titles this year. The game will be released later this summer and is already highly anticipated. Stay tuned to PSX Extreme for further details.
