Activision today revealed more features about their upcoming PS2 extreme sports game, which is based on surfing. Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer is one of fourteen titles that Activision is currently developing for the PS2, and if this game turns out to be anything like the Tony Hawk franchise, then we can expect some incredibly memorable moments out of the black and blue box.

Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer will feature nine surfers, that is including Kelly Slater himself. I'm expecting that each and every rider is beautifully detailed with the use of the Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer, if the developer plays its cards right and takes time with the visual development of the game, then we may very well have one marvelous looking water surfing game. The environments for surfing isn't really something different, but it is still interesting to see how different one locale looks from another. Since this is a PS2 game, we can surely expect some awesome looking water waves that you may have to put on a wet suit, just because of the sheer realism. Having talked about that, President and COO of Activision had this to say: "Our partnership with Kelly Slater over the past nine months is enabling us to bring the ultimate surfing game to market." He followed his statement with: "The technological advancements of the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system allows us to recreate the dynamic wave motion and physics that are essential to producing an authentic surfing game."

The statement is pretty self explanatory and kind of sheds some more light on the graphics of the game. Meanwhile with all of the talk on the visuals, what about the gameplay. Personally I'm hoping to see a game where the camera is in 3rd person perspective and not 3rd person sideline perspective. Of course areas for surfing will be based on real-life locales, and in addition to that the game will feature a multitude of modes. Some of the modes include Career Mode, Surf Trip, and Special Events. A lot like Tony Hawk 2, I expect to see at least three competition events, and different objectives to be completed in every stage. Kelly Slater won't leave you hanging with fake and unauthorized gameplay though, the game will feature licensed surf-boards, wet-suits, general clothing and an all-star music soundtrack. Let's hope that Three Doors Down makes its way on the soundtrack (fingers crossed). Activision has yet to reveal any screenshots of the game, and I highly doubt we will see any anytime soon, my prediction is probably E3 2001.
