Dance Dance Revolution is by far the most addictive game since Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. There is just something about jumping up and down on a pad with arrows on it and matching the arrows on screen, oh I know what it was... fun! Konami has put the "F" back into 'fun' folks, this is without a doubt the most fun I have ever had playing a game, and when I usually play games, I have a straight face on, but with DDR I've got the largest smile possible. Thankfully Konami will bring the game over in the US for PSOne, but that won't be the only dancing game you can play this year. Tecmo has announced that their Japanese dancing game Unison is headed to the states sometime 2001 and it looks pretty good. Read the preview and stay tuned for screenshots.

From what Tecmo has shown, Unison looks like a visual mix between Space Channel 5 and Bust-a-Groove (Bust-a-Move in Japan). You got characters on screen dancing that look incredibly well done and feature very smooth outlining. But of course what's a dancing game without bright colors, sweet looking eye candy effects and just plain vivid backgrounds that light up the atmosphere? I don't know, I guess a bad game that doesn't really reflect how the dancing environments should be like. Thankfully Tecmo does everything right and Unison is filled with tons of great colors, not only does the character detail look great but Tecmo manages to pull of awesome looking lighting to complement the dancing scene.

The gameplay is pretty much nothing like DDR, but that isn't exactly a bad thing since this new innovative way to play the game is quite cool. Instead of matching corresponding arrows you will have to use your Dual Shock analog sticks and match what is said to be done with them. If the two circles show that you have to move the right-stick up and left-stick down then that's what you gotta do to stay alive in the game. Like Space Channel 5 for DC, Unison has a story, some dude named Ducker has prohibited dancing all together because he feels that it has gotten way out of control, so duh as always you've got heroes to fight this law, by dancing. Trill, Cela, Chilly, Sensei and Friday, each characters has his or her own personality, voice and dancing styles. Be sure to look for Unison cause it may just wind up to be one addictive game.
