Konami has treated the press to four screenshots of the very first skateboarding game on the Playstation 2. In their continued use of the ESPN license, the company announced ESPN X-Games Skateboarding. Hopefully this game isn't like Konami's previous ESPN effort, X-Games Snowboarding. X-Games Snowboarding was far too difficult for many people and its super-sim gameplay didn't please many purchasers. So hopefully Konami sticks with the 'extreme' formula and takes route Activision then gets off at Tony Hawk drive... see where I'm going with this? Konami will be including three tournaments stages, all of which will be taken straight out of the San Francisco 2000 X-Games. Along with the three competition stages, X-Games will feature 6 vast stunt courses where various missions may be required to be accomplished, a'la Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. These courses will be set anywhere from New York to Los Angeles.

While skating on one of these levels you should pay attention to the traffic, as one of the screenshots show, and who knows maybe you can even do a Carplant on a vehicle. Knowing as how pretty much all of you reading this have played Tony Hawk 1 or 2, you should be well aware of what to expect from this game; sick moves, grinds, bails, signature tricks and a two-player mode.

ESPN X-Games will feature 12 skaters and 64 skateboard decks for you to strut your stuff with. So much was given to the public that Konami didn't even hesitate to reveal some of the bands that will be lending a hand for X-Games, and they include Linkin Park, New Found Glory, Voodoo Grow Skulls and a variety more. From what these four breathtaking screenshots show, ESPN X-Games is surely looking like a promising game, let's just hope that Konami takes the directions that I listed above. The character detail is amazingly real, the skater faces are immensely detailed, and the environments are some of the best I've seen in a videogame. You guys will be happy to know that your skateboarding fix will arrive this August, just in time for X-Games 2001.
