If you need to find something quickly use the “find” function on your computer (Ctrl+F on Windows and most other PC’s and Apple+F on Macs) and type in the code that has what you are looking for and scroll through. ============= MCLA1A. Ranks ============= As you progress through the game, you will gain reputation points that increase your reputation. Some of the missions will have you earn enough rep points in a certain area before you complete the mission. The amount of rep points you earn from a race depends on 2 factors: How high you place within the race and the difficulty of the opponents you are racing. There are four difficulty levels and they each have their own color. Green racers are the easiest, yellow racers have a medium difficulty, orange racers are hard, and red racers are the hardest. As you earn rep points, your reputation will increase and you will also unlock performance parts to upgrade your vehicles as well as better vehicles. If you have reached a new rank but didn’t unlock what you were supposed to, you may have to do a race or two and it should become unlocked. Same with when you have the amount of races in a vehicle class an you don’t unlock the visual parts. Rep points needed/Rep rank-Unlocks ---------------------------------- 0/Backseat Driver-Group 1 Vehicles 800/Navigator-Group 1, Level 1 Performance Parts 2000/Student Driver-Group 2 Vehicles 3610/Rookie-Group 1, Level 2 Performance Parts 5600/Driver-Group 2, Level 1 Performance Parts 8060/Racer-Group 3 Vehicles 10760/Veteran-Group 2, Level 2 Performance Parts 13700/Elite Racer-Group 3, Level 1 Performance Parts 16500/Champion-Group 4 Vehicles 19540/Legend-Group 3, Level 2 Performance Parts 22760/Savant-Group 4, Level 1 Performance Parts 26160/Hero-Group 4, Level 2 Performance Parts 33500+/Idol-Garage Partner mission Once you get far enough, Karol will call you telling you Booke is back in town and he’s looking for a race. If you check your mission log, you’ll find out that Booke is the City Champ. Beat him and after a while, you will get a call from Karol asking if you want to become a partner in his garage. All you have to do is come up $1,000,000. Once you do, all cars, parts, and visual upgrades will be free. Each vehicle class has their own visual upgrades, which you earn by competing in races with a vehicle from that class. You don’t need to win the races, so if you end up in second a few times, it won’t take any longer to get the upgrades. Cars have 5 ranks each and Bikes have 3. Vehicles =============== There are 2 garages that you visit in Los Angeles. Hollywood Auto is the first one you visit early in the game. Later in the game, you can use the Beaches garage on the coast. Each garage has its own side missions you can do, which will be discussed later. There are 5 classes of vehicles available in the game. They are Tuners, Muscle Cars, Luxury, Exotics and Bikes. Throughout you career you will need to earn rep in each car class as one of your missions. Near the end of the storyline, one of the characters you have met will be that vehicle’s class champion so you will have to drive vehicles from all 5 classes in order to beat the game. As stated above, each car class has 5 ranks that you progress through as you win races with each vehicle class. There are only 3 Bike ranks that you go through. While looking at vehicles in the showroom, you can test drive the cars before you buy them to get a feel for how they handle. They will have one bar of nitrous but you can refill it by driving through a service station. There will be no cops while you are test driving a vehicle. ============== MCLA2A. Missions =============== For the most part, this will be the same order that you receive the missions from everyone. It may be a little different because you may receive one and come back later to find that it isn’t there anymore. This list may not be in the exact order that you receive the missions because you choose which missions to do and when, which affects the missions you receive and when you receive them. If that happens just go into the garage and come back out and you should receive it. You can do them in any order but there may be a few missions that you can’t unlock unless you do previous missions. Some missions you may receive more than once, like the Match missions and the ones that have you win Wager Races out of the Hangouts. After getting far enough in the game, the regular area Tournaments will reopen. For missions that repeat themselves, the objectives will still be the same so missions will only appear once to keep from being repetitive they also don’t count towards percent. Once you hit 50%, you can start working your way to unlocking the Vehicle Champs. You need to win about 35 races in each vehicle class after hitting 50%. The Vehicle Champs will race you one-on-one in the same type of vehicle. They aren’t part of the story but beating them does count towards 100%. 1. Race Types ================== There are 10 different types of races available in Los Angeles. Each one has unique features, so to speak. To start an event, pull near an opponent cruising around Los Angeles and flash your headlights at them. Some will race you to the start. You can either race and earn rep by winning, or you can flash your headlights again and you will automatically be at the start. If there are any cops around, a message will appear at the top of the screen saying the cops are too close to race and you will be placed at the start. The final checkpoint for each race is a red flare. Ordered Race ------------ In Ordered Races, each checkpoint is marked with a yellow flare. Inside each flare is an arrow that points to the location of the next flare. Checkpoints must be passed through in the order they appear. Circuit Race ------------ Circuit Races are the same as Ordered Races only with multiple laps (usually 2 or 3). The number of laps is displayed in the HUD, underneath the timer. Each lap ends with a green checkpoint. If you have Nitrous installed in your car, it will be refilled at the end of each lap. Unordered Race -------------- In Unordered Races, all checkpoints appear at once and you decide the route you want to take. Once you have driven through all checkpoints, the final checkpoint will appear. Red Light Races --------------- Red Light Races are single checkpoint races. The start is the nearest red light to the opponent’s vehicle to a landmark somewhere in the city. Once you finish, you can choose to ‘Return to Cruise’ or you can race them back to the start. Freeway Races ------------- Freeway races are done only on the freeways. Flash your headlights at a racer and checkpoints will appear. Drive through each checkpoint in order. You will either race to a street exit or another freeway. Unlike the other races, this one starts as soon as you flash your lights, so if you have a special ability ready to use, you can use it right away instead of waiting for one to charge. Time Trials ----------- In Time Trials, you will be given a car to use and a course. At the top of the screen will be a countdown timer. Race through all checkpoints and beat the clock to win. You have one bar of Nitrous available. Tournaments ----------- All Tournaments are 3 races each. Each race, you will be awarded points based on where you finish. There are only 3 other racers and points will be awarded on a 7-4-2-1 scale. Whoever has the most points at the end of all three races will be the winner. Individual races within the Tournament cannot be restarted, only the entire Tournament itself can be restarted. Series Races ------------ Series Races are run out of Hangouts scattered around the city. The first racer to win 3 races will win the Series. As with Tournaments, individual races cannot be restarted, only the entire Series can. Wager Races ----------- Wager Races allow you to place money on the race. Wager Races are run out of Hangouts around the city, like Series Races. Your wager will be determined on the difficulty you choose to race on. The higher the difficulty, the higher the wager. Wager Races are 1-on-1 races and the money wagered is deducted from you before the race begins. The winner gets the money wagered. If you restart a Wager Race, you lose the money that you wagered on the race you restarted. Pinkslip Races -------------- Pinkslip Races can be found in the same Hangouts as Wager Races. You bet your vehicle against the opponents in a race. Winner takes both vehicles. If you restart or quit a Pinkslip Race, you will lose your car. If you lose a car in a Pinkslip Race, you can win up to 3 vehicles back from the Hangout. If you don’t want to risk losing your car, turn Auto save off before entering the Hangout. If you lose, you can restart the game and if you win, you can turn Auto save back on. ========================= MCLA3B. Delivery Missions ========================= Once you complete about 20% of the game (give or take a few percent), Karol will call you about delivering cars for him. These missions take place out of the Hollywood Auto garage in Hollywood. Each time you visit the garage to deliver, you will be given a random car and told to drive to a random point in the city. You will have a time limit to deliver the cars in. You receive cash for your services based upon how fast you get the car to the location and how damaged the car is. The faster you get there and the cleaner you keep the car, the more money you get. Each car will have one boost bar ======================== MCLA3C. Payback Missions ======================== Once you get far enough through the missions, Karol will call about clients who haven’t paid him. That will open up the Payback side missions. These take place out of the Beaches garage in Santa Monica. You will be given a 1987 Buick Grand National GNX with 4 nitrous uses available. Your job is to find the car with an icon above it and damage it out. Once you get close enough, a timer will appear at the top of the screen and begin counting down. You need to damage out the target vehicle before it runs out, or else you will need to escape the driver’s friends. When his friends chase you, it is no different than if the cops were chasing you. Break the line of sight and hide for a while. After you complete the first Payback mission, you will be able to choose the difficulty you want. Now you will have to damage out 5 vehicles but each has their own time limit to damage them out, so you don’t need to worry about wasting time finding them. If you find yourself low on nitrous or close to damaging out, you can drive to a gas station and have the car repaired. ================== MCLA4. Goal Attack ================== In Goal Attack, you can pick any race that you have done. You can choose from Ordered, Circuit, Landmark, and Unordered Races. In all races, you will use whatever vehicle you were in when you entered Goal Attack. The only difference is you will not have your special ability, if your vehicle has one equipped. You will race against 3 other drivers. In Circuit Races, all races will be 2 laps. Each race has 4 goals. The only difference between races in the time you need to finish in. If you are having a hard time getting under the time, hop on a bike. For the damage goal, there will be a yellow area on your damage bar. If you don’t receive damage beyond the bar, you completed the damage goal.
