Catherine Lures 500,000 Worldwide
Oh, it's niche all right. And that's why we're happy to see it sell so well (relatively speaking).
According to an Index earning statement spanning September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011, the company had sales of 22,934 yen, which is down 34% in the year-over-year comparison. By the way, Index is the company that owns Atlus, the producers of Catherine.
And that's the good news for Index: as reported by Andriasang, the challenging and unique puzzle adventure has sold 500,000 units worldwide. This helped Index to operating profits of 2,695 million yen in their gaming division. Now, a half-million copies may not sound like much to the big boys like EA and Activision, but for Atlus and a game like the one in question, it's a tremendous success. It has even outsold another of Atlus' surprise hits, 3D Dot Game Heroes.
If you haven't tried Catherine yet, we urge you to check out the game's mature storyline that focuses on infidelity, and a puzzle mechanic that is both original and highly addictive.

Catherine just excels in every aspect, it has an engaging story which takes not of your actions and later displays conseqeuences. It has a challenging gameplay mechanics with stages with always bring something new. It also has Co-op and VS multiplayer, no online which is a great slap in the face to every other developer forcing online play into their games.
I really enjoyed this game, and after 30 hours, there is still tons to do. I don't even have any other puzzle games within my game collection. It's something I was worried before playing, but I soon got the hang of it.
Game of the year in my opinion, hands down.
