Report: Sony Internal Studios Cranking On PS4 Games
The last rumor we heard concerning the PlayStation 4 seemed kinda vague. All we knew is that it might launch in 2013, which doesn't mean a heck of a lot.
But is Sony already starting to allocate software development resources to their new piece of hardware? According to a Develop report, sources "within Sony's internal studio structure" have apparently confirmed that first-party teams have begun "preliminary work" on PS4 games. Yeah, you read that correctly.
Furthermore, a few of those teams might be able to enter the full production phase very soon. The report doesn't name names, so we just have to speculate: this could involve any studio; heavy hitters include Sucker Punch (inFamous, Sly Cooper), Naughty Dog (Uncharted), Sony Santa Monica (God of War), Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo), and Guerilla Games (Killzone). Sony has some amazing teams under their umbrella so anything they do should be highly anticipated.
Sony has said from the start that the PS3 will have a 10-year lifespan. But remember, that doesn't mean the PS3 can't continue on after the PS4 launches. The PS2 went strong for quite a few years after the PS3 released, remember? The PS2 lasted a good 10 years if you look at it that way.

I think that's kind of ignorant to say. I purchased mine when it came out, December of 06 actually so a few months after and I am still enjoying mine. They keep coming with great games so I don't see how having one for 5 or 6 years is relevant to the enjoyment that one can have with it.

Me? I'm still enjoying my ps3. I'd welcome a new generation, but between the games yet to come and those still backlogged, I have quite a bit to hold me over.
I've been tempted to go pc. But I figure the gap is narrowing, especially with the next gen.
I figured that's why even MS decided to keep a few of their franchises exclusive to the 360 platform. Not saying the gap will completely vanish, as I'm sure the pc gaming industry is alive as it has ever been, and it will always be the ever changing bleeding edge of tech, but at least this gen we've seen that now we're doing the same genres on both platforms. Perhaps next gen, we'll be seeing even less a pronounced difference in tech.

And I have a gigantic backlog... enough of a backlog that if nothing released for the rest of the year... including this November... I would be thoroughly enjoying my PS3 for the next 2 years. I have no need for a PS4 anytime soon.

All this info really means to me is that it's time to start saving for the PS4. Never know when it'll drop but I want to have the cash ready and in hand for the console, another controller, and games..
I guess the newbie doesn't realize how far gaming has come. None of us thought we'd be where we are today when we were playing NES

I assume ur parents paid it off (lucky u if it's true). It's never too early or too late to own a PS3. Remember, the PS3 is not 600 bucks anymore. Back then not a whole lot of people could afford it since there was not alot of PS3 games to backup the price.

M$ I guess is piling on the pressure and Sony cannot be seen to fall behind. I still feel we should be able to enjoy our investment for longer. As I said in an earlier post, I will not jump onto the PS4 bandwagon immediately... Actually I may do if I know the PS4 is fully backward compatible. If it means selling the PS3 and picking up a PS4 as a direct replacement then why not.
If my PS3 games are playable and HOME "scales" up to thew new hardware, visually; then it would be more of a hardware upgrade rather than a complete platform change.
Highlander has mentioned this before. PS4 will be iterative... it will be a large step up from the PS3 with a very strong CPU and GPU.
Anyway, time will reveal all... it always does...

I say keep the PS4 close to the same structure as the PS3, some slight enhancements and modifications, and release sooner and cheaper with full backwards compatibility with all PS3 and PSN content.
Ahhhh... now THAT would be my dream machine!! A beefed up PS3 with X-game chat, multi-tasking between programs and software, and native 1080p resolution for ALL games!!
Makes me wonder, did Sony plan the PS3 to be 2 generations ahead of the competition? It certainly looks that way.

I agree. Looking at the PS3's best games, they all look really good. The graphics the PS3 can muster, in my opinion, are just a tad bit off from absolute perfection. I feel like the PS3 is just inches away from being the "perfect" console. I think the PS4 doesn't need a large hardware makeover like the PS3 had. I say put in a slightly more powerful set of Cell processors, double the RAM (512 mb for each the system and video), and an 8x Blu-ray drive that's compatible with the 100 gb blu-ray discs.

It's part of Sony's mission and values. Part of their values are "Embrace Change" --> by anticipating the future, remaining agile and adaptable, and creating and seizing new opportunities.
Sounds a lot like how they anticipated blu-ray in the future and why they released such a high end (but expensive) console like PS3.
They've always been that way. They will never make something cheap just to be the first to release. It would be a gamble, for one, but it would also go against their mission and values.

I believe Sony got whooped back then when it was a dogfight between Sony's Beta Max tape (which was not much of a big difference in size) and I think it was JVC would started the VHS tape. So Sony couldn't have started the VCR player. Now, everything is different.

I have always said that the PS4 will be like a PS3 with a hefty injection of technological hormones. Faster drives, more memory, better connectivity and improved interface. All things the PS3 already does. Only Better. Faster. Stronger!
