Is Battlefield 3 The Most Visually Analyzed Game Of 2011?
You know, for the longest time, I was convinced it would be Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. But based on the literally hundreds of articles I've seen throughout the year dealing with the visuals of DICE's Battlefield 3, I think the latter earns the "most analyzed" crown.
I mean, it's freakin' endless. Go to N4G right now. Four of the top five stories involve BF3, and at least three of them - including the leaked review - involve an examination of the graphics. That isn't uncommon at all; for at least the past month, one or two of the top stories almost every day has dealt with BF3 and more often than not, the graphics are the focal point of the linked article or source.
Obviously, this is due to several factors: first is the fact that EA blew everyone away before Activision got a chance to hit everyone upside the head with Modern Warfare 3 footage. Plus, that early BF3 media was generated on a power PC, which has since generated even more discussion on the console front. Secondly, being the primary competition to the biggest game of the year, it's bound to be in the spotlight. Thirdly and lastly, journalists and gamers have made so damn much of that Frostbite 2.0 engine that we just have to look at the game.
Thankfully, Battlefield 3 comes out tomorrow and reviewers and gamers can weigh in. That won't eliminate the arguments, of course, but at least the speculation will be gone and besides, this is a fickle industry. We're moving forward so quickly, and there are always so many games on the horizon, that we forget in record time. BF3 will be great, I'm sure, but it will have all but disappeared when 2012 arrives. And then maybe we can focus on something else.

I cannot wait... I am also buying a copy for a friend of mine in the UK and I will get it shipped directly to his house. And, no, I can't buy for everyone, this is a wedding gift :)
With the kind of hype BF3 has garnered, over analyses can only be expected. I think the PC people are in for a treat. It will be great on consoles, but we'll see what impact it really makes on the lower of the platforms.

My money for GOTY is Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Batman Arkham City or Gears of War 3. I would love to add Portal 2, but many seem to have forgotten that gem over time. Same goes with Littlebig Planet 2.
I hope GOTY nominees will include games from earlier this year, otherwise it's just unfair to those who released their games earlier.

DICE have been spending the past few years building their new engine for this.
not to mention battlefield has always been the series to push the outer limits so 3 is expected to exactly the same.
then the whole debacle of idiots thinking consoles would look the same as PC has not helped things.
i have to say though, the ps3 version is FUGLY!
glad i ordered it on PC because theres so low texture resolution, really bad screen tearing, just looks a mess!

There are 360 commercials for COD making it seem like an exclusive, but I also saw a Playstation commercial yesterday for BF3 and at the end it stated "Where you can battle online for FREE on the PSN".....hmmmmmm.
This looks like more than a game vs game deal this time.
