Pachter: Modern Warfare 3 Is Easy Holiday Winner
Well, considering that analysts predicted lifetime sales of MW3 to be around 25 million and lifetime sales of BF3 to be around 12 million, this makes perfect mathematical sense.
According to an unsurprising Forbes article loaded with lots of big numbers, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that EA's Battlefield 3 will be outsold by Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by a 2:1 ratio this holiday season.
Pachter believes DICE's highly anticipated effort can manage 8 million copies in the fourth quarter, while MW3 will sell double that number. BF3 gets the jump as it comes out today (MW3 is slated for a November 8 release) but that may not matter in the long run. In the fourth quarter alone, Pachter thinks the two games will combine to generate $1.4 billion in sales for the holidays. ...that'd be a ridiculous 15% of all retail game sales for the quarter, by the way.
Pachter added that MW3 will likely have better longevity, as he doesn't believe BF3 can sell more than 2 million copies in 2012, while MW3 can easily sell another 8 million. However, despite the predictions, EA has always said they only want to eat into CoD's market share, as boss Peter Moore told GameSpot:
"If you look at last year, you might argue that Call of Duty took maybe 90 percent of the market share. We think we can knock that down to 70 percent this year. We don't have to outsell Call of Duty to have a very successful year. This is a long-term strategy to be a major player, if not ultimately a dominant player in this industry. But it starts this year."
Hope you like your shooters.

lmao @ determining if someone is acting manly by choosing whether or not to purchase a certain game.
Eat your heart out, brighat. The game is going to sell well and there's nothing you can do about it except for sit back, relax, and watch the sales numbers increase while you cry yourself to sleep as a result.

MW3, and I quote Game Informer and IGN, is nothing more than a glorified expanded map pack to MW2. Very little has changed between MW2 and MW3, and it actually feels like a step back from what Treyarch accomplished with Black Ops.
After hearing that, I'm tempted to buy back Black Ops cheaper than what I traded it for, and just not bother with MW3 at all. Already getting BF3.

Of course the main reason we follow the gaming industry so closely is because we analyze for our heart's content and knowing something big is coming.
He analyzes because it's his job and investors rely on him to make the right calls so that they can make big bucks as well.
Yes...we all wish we had his job. But of course there are some other things you'd rather not want to do in his position.

As for MW3 i'm not getting it and not because my other half is, because she is as we normally buy one each so we can play against each other online, not for me this time but to be honest i would of got it if she hadn't pre-ordered it but i really didn't rate what Treyarch has done to COD this time and the last time and that has put me off COD a bit.
In my eyes i have to say the masters of COD/MW are Infinityward and i really hope they have added a bit more to MW3 than what some sites are saying.
If i did have to pick between BF3 and MW3 it would be BF3 all day long for me because i still play online with BF2 and still enjoy it.
Having said all that my Mrs is bang into COD and MW so we do have a laugh winding each other up to what we think is the better game as i'm the BF nut, which is the better game out of the two or is that the three? ;-)
