Naughty Dog Hopes Tomb Raider Turns Out "Amazing"
When Uncharted: Drake's Fortune arrived back in 2007, many called it a Tomb Raider for a new generation.
Four years later, we consider Naughty Dog's new franchise to be one of the best in the history of the industry, while we await the Tomb Raider reboot, an attempt to rejuvenate an ailing series and character icon.
And while it's likely that Naughty Dog used Lara's past adventures as inspiration for Uncharted, the tables are reversed now and game director Justin Richmond says "it's an honor" to see Crystal Dynamics using Drake's adventures as inspiration.
"It’s an honour, but at the end of the day I just hope that those guys make an awesome game. The reason we make these games is so that we can play them. I’m really interested to play the new Tomb Raider.., we’ve always been very open as a studio, go to GDC [Games Developer’s Conference] and there’ll be 15 talks about exactly how we made the game. We don’t hide that stuff.
And there’s a reason for that, we want to bring the whole industry up and raise the level of the games being made. I think the Tomb Raider guys are doing what they want to do and they’ve made some bold choices with the way they’ve approached the design of Lara. I haven’t played it but I hope it comes out really amazing."
As for the Lara redesign, we've already stated our approval, and we wouldn't be surprised if Crystal Dynamics took a few hints from Naughty Dog's playbook. And there's nothing wrong with that, as Richmond says. Here's hoping!

I am not joking, I've recently been taking some Graphic Design and Cinematography classes this semester because, after reading and watching every interview and conference Naughty Dog is involved in, I've been inspired to get into Game Development. I've been suffering from career woes and I finally have something to strive for.
I love the Indiana Jones movies that lent some inspiration to Uncharted, I love the action-adventure genre in video games, and no other company/developer/group of people have contributed to interactive cinematography as much as Naughty Dog has.
With that said, I too am looking forward to the new Tomb Raider next year. Let's just hope by then I'll have time after replays of Uncharted 3 to play it ;)

That being said, I love this quote:
"we want to bring the whole industry up and raise the level of the games being made."
How awesome a goal is that? Imagine if ND could share their knowledge and give every game the brilliant narrative and characters, the graphics, the aural experience, the immersion and engaging nature of the Uncharted series. I wish I could hibernate until. Ten days to the Deception.

Remember when every male/female gamer wanted a topless Laura code? lol I think we've all grown out of that now.........then again

i cant wait to see more on it, i really like the whole vulnerable scared almost survival horror feel to it.
only thing im worried about is the repetitiveness of the puzzles.
thats something that has really held back and ruined previous TR games, so sort that out and it should be f*cking awesome!

I first played the Tomb Raider HD trilogy recently and was blown away by the gameplay. No scripted platforming, great puzzles, great combat, etc. I like how cinematic the new Tomb Raider looks but Crystal Dynamics needs to remember that it's Tomb Raider whereas Uncharted is Uncharted.
Both are amazing series (Uncharted 2 is my favorite game this generation) but both are unique in what they do.

And as for Tomb Raider, I am genuinely excited for it. Its probably not gonna be as near-perfect as Uncharted is, but I expect at least an 8.5 for it. Plus, it looks quite unique from any Uncharted (except for the places where they obviously took inspiration, like the "holy sh*t" moments), and I like variety in any genre.

I love Lara's new realistic look, and the fact that she's a little more vulnerable and inexperienced this time means that, as players, we can mature and grow our skills with her. I love that!!
If the game is as good as that E3 demo throughout the entire game, I will definitely be preordering this baby!! Here's hoping for a Collector's Edition. :)
