Rockstar Announces GTAV, Trailer Inbound On 11.02.11
With the 10th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III, we figured it'd be a perfect time to announce the long-awaited fifth installment.
And it's here. ...well, sorta. The bad news is that Rockstar only made a simple Tweet - "GTAV" - with a link to their main site. The good news can be found at that site.
Yeah, all we have is a logo right now, but look at the bottom: Trailer 11.02.11. So the official announcement trailer for Grand Theft Auto V is only a week away! Some light rumors have been circulating all year; we've heard the game would be set on the west coast, and that there would be a fair number of zany, colorful characters. That's just one example. But whatever the result, you can bet that GTAV will be amazingly popular, and perhaps the only game this generation that has an outside shot of challenging Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for the ultimate sales crown.
GTAIV went on to sell almost 20 million copies, remember, so even if MW3 sells upwards of 25 million, is it too absurd to assume that GTAV could come close...? Well, anyway, can't wait for the trailer!

GTA can't die because it's intelligent (albeit with some questionable content). CoD is literally a milking experience and will die. GTA is quality and innovation each release.
All hells gonna break loose next week.

With GTAIV they took it up another notch with the Euphoria engine. So to answer your question, I think it GTA has big time influence within the industry. The industry will want to know what R* will do next.

heres to hoping its more like san andreas, 3, and vice city and nothing like GTAIV.
if its anything like IV im done with R* games for good!
i wish we could have a san andreas game, the whole gameplay, mission style, weapon upgrades, gang vibe, in the location, with the cars and music of vice city.
just the whole tropical island happy light colourful theme was really fun.
though, on a side note this is EXACTLY why i hate R*!
they announce a bazillion games, show 1 trailer for 1 game, then announce another bazillion games!
i mean they announced MP3 what 5 years ago?
we have seen what, 2 trailers for it?
and in that time they announce GTAV and agent and say nothing about them!
i thought you were suppose to announce a game, then show it off, then release it, then announce your next game.
rinse and repeat.
not announce a game, announce another game, show off 2 trailers, announce another game, rinse and repeat.
more showing off games, and less talking about new ones!
this is why it takes so long for R* to make, and show off their games!
because there too busy creating their new game!
if they spent half their resources on games already announced, instead of new unannounced games we would get at least 1 game a year from them!
they have so many studios, why not put several on 1 project to speed it up instead of having 10 different studios working on 10 different games?
makes no freaking sense, they take WAY too long to release their games!

BTW: 2012: MP3, GTAV
2011: L.A. Noire (developed externally, but an internal studio handled the PC port, so I'm counting it)
2010: RDR
2009: GTA:EFLC
2008: GTA IV, MCLA
That's a game every year for the last four and two for next...
