Silent Hill Could Explore Other Genres

Well, Resident Evil is breaking genre boundaries with Operation Raccoon City, so why can't Silent Hill?

Although the horror series has always remained true to its roots, in that all titles utilize a third-person action format and a ton of suspenseful atmosphere, Konami is willing to change.

Silent Hill: Downpour senior associate producer Tom Hulett told Beefjack that they can always explore new concepts. As an example, he referred to Silent Hill: Book of Memories for the PlayStation Vita, which changes the player's point of view and tosses in RPG elements. Said Hulett:

"I definitely think Silent Hill has room to expand into different spinoff genres as Resident Evil has as well as long as they keep the fundamental themes of the series intact."

Well, that's the key, isn't it? At first, there were a few rumors that Downpour, in development at Vatra Games, would be a FPS. But Hulett said the game "was never going to be an FPS." Therefore, we'd like to think our beloved freaky franchise won't change too much; we can deal with stuff like role-playing mechanics, but changing how we experience Silent Hill? The fans won't like that one bit.

They can do what they like to the franchise now as far as i'm concerned. The series lost it's identity & was ruined years ago imo. But the fact that there was even a remote thought of making Silent Hill a FPS is just plain insulting. Have they not pissed on this series enough already? You want to make a FPS, by all means do it but do not add the Silent Hill label to it ffs!

May SH, SH2, SH3 & even SH4 The Room live long in the memory. When Silent Hill games had soul.

dumb idea. they should worry about rebooting the series and getting back to the basics first.
silent hill hasn't been relevent since silent hill 3 in my opinion. it's been a long time since a silent hill game has mattered on the consoles.

Yea..I can't see Silent Hill going a completely different genre route. I agree, include a few RPG elements and it'll be fine. Patiently waiting for HD collection

It's going to work for the new Tomb Raider, But If anything Silent Hill needs to look back upon what made it so good in the first place. They're already trying it with Book of Memories and it looks like a disaster.

If anything Silent Hill doesn't need to be more action-packed. I would like to see if more like the older survival horror games with fixed camera angles. Ever since Origins they have tried to focus on combat and since then it has just become more and more sluggish. Heck even SH: The Rooms combat was sluggish.

From what I seen, the people incontrol of the license just do not care for the past titles. I wish they would just start a new horror series and disconnect it from Silent Hill.

It seems that they are just so aloof with the series these days. It feels like they don't seem to care about the series enough to actually try to produce quality, and are just spurning out titles to use the Silent Hill name for profit.

"I know, let's make a list of list of all gaming genres, put them in a hat, and then randomly draw one. That's the genre of our next Silent Hill game. Hmm let's see. OK, so the next 2 titles will be Silent Hill Go Kart Racers, followed by Silent Hill Tetris. If you lose at Tetris then Pyramid Head will jump out and yell "boooo". That way we'll really keep with the themes from the original games."

If I feel like I'm in an abyss between nightmare and reality and trying to follow the crumbs of sanity that are doled out for just keeping me from crossing the line between psychosis and neurosis, I know I'm in a Silent Hill game. I can't define my Silent Hill experience by game mechanics. If they do an exact remake of the first game in FPS mechanics it wouldn't bother me one bit. What I miss in Silent Hill is the deadly hug of flayed children and the wing flapping sounds coming from the empty cage painted with blood.

ive given up on the survival horror genre, its sadly just dead and berried forever!
they can do whatever they want with the series now, no point b*tching and whining because there going to do it anyway!
have fun whoring out what was one of the best series ever created!
shame, developers and publishers have no respect and standards these days!
no brand pride what so ever!
its pathetic!
