Limbo Developer's New Project Is Different, "More Weird"

If you haven't checked out Limbo yet, you really should.

It's one of the most unique and immersive downloadable games in existence, and we'll be excited when developer PlayDead unveils their second mystery project. The bad news for Limbo fans is that it'll be "so different" but the good news is that it'll be "more weird."

In speaking to Eurogamer, PlayDead boss Dino Patti said the new title will be "more 3D than you would think" and he's "really proud of it already." As for what to expect:

"It's the perfect project two for our company, because it's similar in many ways, but so different. The next project is more crazy than Limbo, if you say that's crazy. It's more weird in many ways."

Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait a while. Patti said their "production time is long" and they don't want to "tire people out." He says he hates it when big publishers announce a game a year or two before the launch, and just keep bringing you news throughout that span of time. He says he wants an announcement one month before, but that's about it.

As for intended platforms, Patti says that hasn't been revealed, either. Limbo was on the Xbox Live Arcade for a long time before finally reaching the PlayStation Network; will we see that again? Answered Patti:

"We are aiming to go as wide as possible. At this point it's hard to promise, because I don't know what consoles there will be or what deals. It went really well on XBLA. I'm really happy with those guys. But it also went really well on PlayStation."

These guys remind me a lot of Thatgamecompany, so I'll wait patiently for any updates.

Limbo is an interesting game.

I really enjoy the art direction, atmosphere and it's macabre weirdness. It shock up the gaming world when released. Developers suddenly realised it was quite acceptable to make games that look so different from the mainstream... and it does shows that independent developers can make games that approach a game world and it's characters in a very different way, bestowing a different sense of being and tons of atmosphere.

I wish them the best of luck with "Limbo 2", or whatever it will eventually be called.

The gaming communities need productions like this...

I really liked Limbo. I didn't get very far in the demo before deciding to buy it. I am definitely interested in their next project.

Limbo was fantastic, can't wait for their second game. It could just be how i'm reading it, but he says he doesn't know what consoles there will be. That, combined with him talking about a long production time make it seem like it could be on the next generation of consoles. Or it could be all in my head with all this next gen talk lately.

more weird then a black and white scroller staring a unknown child wondering around a strange unknown place, with giant spiders and giant death traps lying around the place?
is that even possible?
