Boston's Adrian Gonzalez Lands Cover For MLB 12: The Show
Well, 2K landed Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander for the cover of MLB 2K12, so who did Sony get for their baseball simulator?
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced that MLB 12: The Show will launch in North America on March 6, 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita. Boston Red Sox All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will grace the cover; he's a leading candidate for the American League MVP, and he's also a three-time Gold Glove winner.
This is the first time that The Show will be available on both the PS3 and Sony's new handheld, which is scheduled to hit store shelves on February 22. Sony's simulator has routinely been the leading baseball simulator on the market and this year's entry was no exception. As for Gonzalez, he seems enthusiastic about the selection:
"I feel very humbled to be chosen for the cover of MLB 12 The Show. I think most sports fans would agree it's a dream come true to be immortalized as the cover athlete for a video game so I jumped at the chance to work with a leading franchise like The Show—it's truly a great honor."
In 2011, Gonzalez was crucial to Boston's early success, as he earned his first Silver Slugger Award, and finished in the top five in batting average (.338) and RBI (117). Of course, Boston suffered one of the worst late-season collapses in sports history, but we're pretty sure BoSox fans are trying to put that behind them.

Anyways, over 4 installments, that's 2 joe mauer's and 2 red sox covers. Surely there are more baseball fans than BoSox and Twins fans. They should be making their rounds to most teams for cover art. Almost every team has at least 1 incredible player. I liked the variety they initially showed... Mets, Phillies, Red Sox, Twins... why not keep the trend going? Always good to evenly hit up both NL and AL, too.
Additional thought... I know of one girl who got the last 2 MLB the Show's because she thought Mauer is sexy. I doubt Gonzalez will have the same effect on her. lol
