Yamauchi: "Of Course We're Working On GT6 Already"
Racing fans had to assume that Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital was already working on Gran Turismo 6.
But you know what happens when we assume; it's always better to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. In speaking to IGN, Yamauchi first spoke about future plans for GT5 downloadable content, and then confirmed the team's work on GT6. Try not to get too excited.
As for new content in GT5, Yamauchi said:
"I think that will include cars and trucks that we’ll be releasing maybe once every two months or so from here on out. What we do from here on is also really dependent on the reaction of the users to this first DLC that we just released because this is the first one."
It's great that we get new stuff every couple of months, isn't it? Now, it seems clear that he means "tracks" and not "trucks;" translations can be iffy sometimes. At any rate, Yamauchi says they still have "a pool of materials" they can release as DLC, which is fantastic news for those who can't get enough of GT5.
But hey, we can always look forward to the future, can't we? Check it out:
"Of course we’re working on GT6 already and I think what really will be the separating factor is something that we can’t update through a DLC is something that obviously has to be saved for GT6. Things that we can provide through DLC we will, so that’s really the market difference."
He didn't say if the next GT will release on the PlayStation 3. Typically, we have to wait a while for each new entry, and it seems very possible that GT6 could end up on Sony's next machine. Of course, that depends entirely on Sony's console plans...

Polyphony doesnt have a huge staff like other studios, they seem to focus on the quality of their staff rather than sheer numbers. They can easily pay the bills this way.

Financially, I want GT6 to be on the PS3. Adding content to GT5 is great and all, but in two years time especially, I want a new experience and game structure and I don't want to have to buy a PS4 for it. The biggest problem in GT for me is the single player experience, which is funny because every reviewer out there was so busy griping on standards/premiums that they thought the career was long and engaging. Eventually if you really played it, it's actually short and unsatisfying in GT's standard.
Polyphony has proven in the past that they can get something up quickly for new consoles. Example being GT2 for the PSX was released in 1999, and it was only a year later when the PS2 is released GT3 releasing shortly after. While it's true that the number of cars were cut in half, the experience and visuals were more than enough to overcome it.
That's actually what they were gonna do with GT earlier in the PS3's life cycle with GT Vision/GTHD... a quick upgrade. Eventually though, they decidedly to scrap the project altogether and rebuild a whole new engine as if they're trying to max out the PS3 already, with it still being the 1st GT of this generation. Normally, devs wouldn't try to max out the PS3 early on in life, cause that would be saved for the sequel in the same generation. That's why it took long, as well as many other factors of course.

and hopefully this time they go for a manageable number of cars, none of this upres ps2 models BS!
if that means only 200 cars then so be it!
better 200 beautiful cars then 200 beautiful cars and 800 cars out of GT4!
they really need to pick 1 thing and focous on it, they really tried to bite off way too much in GT5.
f*ck rally racing, f*ck V8 supercars, f*ck cart racing!
GT has always been a hardcore track racer, and thats where it should stay!
they tried to add so much crap the quality really dipped.
i hope they add a auto vista mode too, its so freaking cool to be able to just ogle the cars.
thats the whole point of these types of games, for fans to interact with cars they probably never get to see in their life, let alone drive!
so its nice to be able to walk around them, get up close and personal, sit in them, fire them up.
and of course mods, it aint GT unless you can change every nook and cranny of your car!
