EA Renews Lord Of The Rings License

The Lord of the Rings marches on, as EA announced today they renewed its license to produce games set in J.R.R. Tolkien's expansive fantasy world. The license is now good through 2008, and may or may not include the previously delayed The White Council next-gen LotR title.

"We have a long history of making great games with EA and are thrilled to extend our longstanding relationship," said David Imhoff, New Line's senior executive VP of worldwide licensing and merchandising. "We look forward to working closely with EA to create even more compelling Lord of the Rings adventures in the future."

EA has created several LotR installments in the past, all of which enjoyed decent success, so it's no surprise they've retained the money-making franchise. They still haven't released anything new concerning The White Council, which was put on "indefinite hold" earlier this year, but perhaps now we can expect some new details concerning the project. Either way, it's good to know the Lord of the Rings universe will remain in the video game realm for at least a few more years.
