Battlefield 3 Patch Hits Consoles "Shortly After PC"

All games can use a little improvement, and good developers always want to make their products better, even after those products are out the door.

According to the Battlefield blog, DICE is currently preparing a patch for Battlefield 3 that will improve "polish, stability, weapons balancing, squad control functionality, user interface enhancements, and several feature enhancements that address feedback the community has provided to date."

They say the patch will arrive for the PC version next week, but PS3 and Xbox 360 players will have to wait a little longer. The patch has to pass through certification before it becomes available on consoles but thankfully, DICE says this will happen "shortly after the PC update." So what are you hoping gets fixed? Those who enjoy the multiplayer probably have a laundry list of issues they'd like to see disappear, which isn't surprising. No offense to DICE or BF3, of course.

But when it comes to online multiplayer, there will always be problems. It's just a matter of whittling those problems down to a minimal number.

Patching online multiplayer is okay, but single player games like Skyrim have no excuse for issues like game crippling lag if your save file gets too big. Another Bethesda game that has problems on the PS3...what a surprise. Apparently there is no way to avoid it in the PS3 version. Turning off auto save is supposed to help but everytime you save the file increases so you are going to run into eventually. That should have been found by internal testers. I guess PS3 owners without their PS3's hooked up to internet are screwed.

I read on CVG that EA is getting sued for not including BF 1943 in the PS3 version like they promised. I remember when that was announced at E3. What happened? Isn't that the same game that is on PSN? Why did they back out of including it in the PS3 version?

Their excuse was that hey are giving us the DLC a week early instead. Pretty lame if you ask me but what's even lamer is the entitlment mentality among to today's gamers that drives them to sue over silly things like this.

Yes, pretty lame on both ends. Poorly handled by EA though. I don't understand why EA went to the trouble of promising Battlefield 1943 exclusive for the PS3 at E3 and then beack out of it. Exchange for 1 week exclusive dlc? The one week exclusive dlc for the PS3 was announced before they backed out of BF 1943 so it really was not an exchange. They are just saying that to cover their you know what.

They need to fix the party up system so people aren't constantly split up from their mates, fix the mic problems and although I've not played in a few weeks, I found the game very laggy.

I think I can put up with mostly everything else, which isn't too much I can think of.

They fixed the lag. Plus if you open the ports on your router the game runs smooth as butter.

I really want to see them add in easier partyup (as you stated) but id also like to be able to back out of a match before! it starts. There is no, back out button. Why? Mic problems i didnt have an issue with (but i havnt played in about 2 weeks) and yes the server needs a few tweaks as any server does

Fixing bugs is always a good thing but this patch is going to nerf the tactical lights and mortars as well. I like the tactical lights the way they are currently, they just need to make it so teammates can't shine their lights in your face. And there's nothing wrong with mortars either. If nothing else, just give them a limited amount of ammo which forces them to be selective with how it's used.

I agree, I haven't had any problems with the mortars or flashlights. I hate getting killed because I'm blinded but that is apart of the game. Seems fine to me.

Is the flashlights going to be entirely removed or just lower the effect from it?
I even liked that your own teammates can shine you, it adds to realism!

The flashlight effect is being lowered so you really have to get in their face now for it to be of any real use. I really didn't mind that my teammates could shine the light in my face, it's just that I was blinded by teammates more then the enemy :)

Yip Geo... it has been one of those, "in yer face" deals... but thank goodness it will be toned down...

sorry but the flashlights needs the nerfing. shouldnt be so blinding from so far away. the only nerfing i heard about the mortars was allowing the MAVS to disable them. is there any other plans for mortars being nerfed?

Well the patch just came out a little bit ago. Tactical lights and mortars weren't touched according to the patch notes :) I'll find out later when I wake up.

I play on the PC as well and I haven't had those problems since the first week after launch. I've also had less disconnections when I play on a server with Punkbuster turned on. Way too many glitches and cheating going on, hiding underneath the map primarily, when I play on a server not using it.

hopefully in that patch will be a magical wand which will turn the game into the PC breaker it was meant to be!
PC developers have really let me down this year.
i was expecting crysis 2, RAGE, and BF3 to be the crysis of 2011.
but they struggle to best their freaking predecessors!
especially after seeing all the trailers, pics and such game just looks really disappointing.
