Will We Ever Let Kojima Spread His Creative Wings?
I'm sure all the hardcore Metal Gear Solid fans will hate me for saying this, but I think it's important. We shouldn't pigeonhole a genius, should we? Does someone like Hideo Kojima deserve to be typecast?
Sure, we got Zone of the Enders but for the most part, he's all about Metal Gear Solid, and the fans fully expect him and his team to deliver continuous sequels. Let's face it; nobody wants MGS to go anywhere. And while Kojima has hinted at his secret "Project Ogre" project, I sort of get the feeling that he's struggling...he would hate to disappoint his fans, but I mean, when you're talking about the death of Snake, you're looking for an out.
He has said numerous times in the past that he desperately wants to get away from MGS and try something new. But his games aren't made overnight. They take time because he's a renowned perfectionist. And did you happen to notice his quote, that eventually, he'd "have" to make an MGS4 sequel? "Have to?" I'm sorry, based on everything I've seen from him over the past year or so, it seems painfully obvious that the master is tired of his beloved MGS franchise.
And you know, visionaries like this guy must feel penned in by the fans. Sure, they want him to experiment but I think they want a new MGS more; I think they'll always want the new MGS more. Something new is just plain tricky; it's unknown, unproven. When we see "Metal Gear Solid," we get excited for very specific reasons. But what if we're sort of demanding that Kojima cater to our taste for familiarity? What if he feels a little like a prisoner; i.e., make this or watch your fans rebel...?
I'd be very interested to see the reaction if Kojima stood up and said: "I'm working on an all-new project and putting Metal Gear Solid to bed. At least for now." I'm just worried people would totally flip out...and I think he's worried about that, too.

Some of them say he should of ended the series with MGS2, i personally think that would've been a bad idea.
I'd hate to see the series go, but if kojima wants to end it i would respect his decision.

I mean a deep fan would want the series to continue forever.
Snake has gone, he is retired, that doesn't mean there can be no other hero.
I mean, Kojima is a genius, how long will it take him to invent a new loveable hero?
After MGS4 the threat of a new metal gear has not totally disappeared. The snakes have, but there will always be a bad guy.

"They are not fans really are they."
That is a possibility, those guys are on the cook fringe. After reading some of their comments i wondered to myself if they are fans of the series or just fans of one particular game.
I personally don't really want a sequel to MGS4 (although i'd buy it). There is a missing gap between PW and MG1 that a new MGS could fill, or as i suggested below kojima pro could just set up a brand new canon with snake as the main character, something similar to what the Acid games did (except keep the traditional gameplay).

I'd like to see him do a JRPG like he was clearly born to do.

most wont though, they just want to see more of the same out from him.
id love to see him take on a psychological thriller like alan wake, or a murder mystery like heavy rain.
just think he has the imagination and creativity to really do the genres justice.
2 styles of games we dont see anywhere near enough!
LA Noire Kojima style!
now if thats not a game worthy of best game ever created, then nothing is!

Leave the new IPs to other up and coming developers.
It's like Ferrari designing a car which is practically perfect, they modify it to be almost flawless when a customer comes and asks for a completely different machine!
I am completely against this attitude.
In one hand you have Ben saying Squareenix should stick to their known formula (turn based FF) and on the other you have yourself who want companies like Squareenix to completely change direction, ultimately leaving them confused, as Square clearly are right now.
Please don't do this to Kojima Productions too.

so few developers out there have the creativity, and ideas he would put into games.
restricting him to one series is just silly, its like restricting james cameron to only the titanic.
yea it was a cult classic, but theres so few people who have the magic touch, that seem everything they do is just so good.
so restricting them to one series is just stupid!

Regarding Square Enix I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

But I for one would love to see Kojima work on something new, Metal Gear is one of my favourite gaming franchises, but there really no where else it can go. You can come up with all these little spin off ideas, but overall they wont progress the story. There is no point starting a new story set in the same 'universe as MG, as every time it tires to tie into Metal Gear will just seem cheap, so I for one would like Kojima to work on something fresh.
