Quantic Dream: Madison Paige Was A "Strong Character"
It's easy to make assumptions and it's even easier to get roped into politically correct arguments.
Madison Paige was one of four main characters in Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain. For our part, she was a great character and one that seemed both realistic and compelling. But of course, there are some who will say she didn't need to be depicted in her underwear, and she didn't need to strip down in the club.
That was one of the topics Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere discussed with Gamasutra during a recent interview. As far as he's concerned, Madison was both a "strong character" and a "nice role."
"She's a strong character, to me. The very first scene, she's fighting against, I think, three guys, if I remember well -- it's in her nightmare, of course. She's quite clever. She is athletic. I think it's quite a nice role."
As for the scene that could potentially involve sexual violence (in the nightclub), that's always tricky for storytellers. Fondaumiere admits that it's a delicate topic but he adds that Quantic Dream isn't "endorsing it in any way." He reminds us that it ends badly for Paco (the club owner) and "at the end you felt proud of Madison."
In regards to the scene where Madison is fighting off intruders in her underwear (it's a dream), the co-CEO says simply- "She was basically in bed - you understanding me? She was basically in bed." And young women typically don't go to bed fully clothed. In the end, it was Quantic Dream's intention to create an authentic female character:
"We wanted to show, at the same time, that the character was strong but also fragile. Not because she's a woman, but that's the characterization of her. And I think she's a central character. If I compare it to other games, I think it's an interesting role for a female character."

Sex and nudity is not a big deal in Europe, only if it is depicted in a bad context like exploitation or violence. In America, any nudity is bad, even Janet Jackson's nipple slip caused headlines around the world and America's reaction was even worse!!!!
Oh no!! Think of the children!!! We can't have them exposed to such filth!! Cowboys killing Indians, cops and robbers killing each other, murders on the news, terrorism around the world, footage of Gaddafi being tortured then killed... all perfectly fine to show on TV where little kids can see it all unsupervised.
Boobs? Nipples? Buttocks? HELL NO!! Those things are far too natural and common with everyone to be shown to little children!! (sarcasm)
It truly amazes me that society has become so focused on fighting sex and nudity when violence and gun-related deaths are at an all time high!!

Even most dudes wear boxers and some sort of tee or sleeveless to bed these days.
Madison in her undies is not an inaccurate depiction of her character for the sake of sexuality. So long as it fits her character, and that character has a constructive purpose to the narrative, it's all good in my books.

Madison was a very strong character that rounded out the overall story nicely. I never once thought of the shower part as "porn" which by the way can be accessed on the ol' internet without having to deal with the M-sticker.
On a side note, my girl played this game several times and her favorite part was the nightmare. She has never complained about the boobies. She did however want to rip o' boys head of in the club.
I still remember her *small Spoiler* jumping out the apartment when it was on fire and looking at me like a kid who just got their ice cream stolen. She even managed to get Madison killed on the DLC.

that was one of my gripes with the game, you never really connect with any of the characters besides ethan and his son.
everyone else just takes a back stage role to push the story forward.
feel like stands holding things up, there, but not there.
i wish they stuck with the DLC episodes instead of giving in to $ony and chucking them out for forced move support.
just does not suit the game, the controls are far too inaccurate especially for a gesture context game like this.
in killzone who cares if the controller does not do what you wanted to, you miss one shot big woop!
here you miss one QTE, it could mean your death depending on what difficulty your playing on.
the highway scene with the move was a FREAKING NIGHTMARE!
whatever game they do next, i pray its not a move only game!
that would be the biggest injustice since M$ bought out rare and restricted them to crappy kinect titles!

Hated it. Sort of broke the immersion and was not precise enough to make sure you hit all the prompts.
Puzzling as I thought it would be ideal as a Move showcase. I think they over complicated it.
