Latest Atelier RPG Hits US This Spring

We very much enjoyed Atelier Totori: Adventurer of Arland, and we know a great many RPG fans who had a blast with NIS America's latest.

Therefore, they'll appreciate this news: NIS has announced that Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland will launch in North America in spring 2012. Princess Meruru has become fascinated with alchemy and vows to become Totori Helmold's apprentice.

The game will boast the following features:

-- New “Development” system: develop new areas and facilities in Arls to gain access to even more lands to explore!

-- Developing new areas and facilities will change the appearance of the in-game world! How you develop the kingdom will alter the outcome of the story. -Classic turn-based battles feature a Time Card turn system, making the battles even more strategic!

-- Master item synthesis with the help of the ever-popular Homs! -Fan-favorite characters from previous Atelier games return with more stories and mysteries to uncover!

If you wish turn-based role-playing hadn't gone the way of the dodo on consoles, make sure you give these games a shot. Atelier Totori was a definite improvement over the previous installment (Atelier Rorona), and we expect another step in the right direction when The Apprentice of Arland launches next year.

Awesome news. Turn based isn't dead, it's just taken to the niche market...

Day One Purchase.

It isn't dead but it sure isn't what it used to be. These games are nice distractions, but they definitely aren't as high quality as Shadow Hearts, Xenosaga, or any Shin Megami Tensei from the past generation.

Yeah it's a shame it DID die in the non-niche JRPG market because that's where it's most thrillingly executed.

I can't say that I wouldn't want a new Xenosaga, I would, but I'll take what I can get. ;)

Sweet. But I dislike the time limits in Totori, I'm going to have to play the game over a third time for any chance at completing it now so I'll have to set it aside for a time, it's just a shame that you can get pigeonholed into failure so easily. I never played Rorona but I assume it was more focused on alchemy, if Meruru has as much focus on questing I'll get it.

For those looking for a great turn-based rpg check out Tales of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on PSP or "TItS" as it is lovingly referred to. One of the best games I have played in a very long time.

No problem! It is worth every penny. Xseed remind me a lot of Working Designs if you are old enough to remember them. Fantastic localizations by a passionate team.

I do remember them. Lunar is a fantastic series! Same with Elemental Gearbolt. That game owned.

Well, more accurately turn-based combat has not gone the way of the dodo on consoles. It hasn't become extinct on consoles. It's just become an endangered species. But thanks to the people at Gust and others like them, and also thanks to the fans, it's also a protected endangered species.

Great! Thoroughly enjoying Arland, it's eaten up my Skyrim time.
