Square Enix's Secret Action RPG Uses The Unreal Engine
Well, you don't license engines for no reason.
According to Famitsu and as noted by Andriasang, Square Enix is currently working on an "original action RPG" that utilizes the Unreal Engine.
We don't know much about the project just yet, but Ryutaro Ichimura is part of the process (he's typically a producer for Square Enix titles), and we know it isn't part of the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest franchises. The interesting part is that Ichimura told Famitsu that the team "traveled the world for the past two years and conducted user surveys to research art and gameplay direction for the game." As of now, the basics have been finalized and Famitsu showed off some concept art for the main character, heroine, and boss (at least, that's what we think those pictures are).
Square Enix is also looking for planners, programmers (network, 3D graphics, physics, animation) and designers (art, motion, VFX, background modeling and character modeling) for the mystery project. Personally, I've always wanted another full Dragon Quest for consoles...DQVIII remains an enduring favorite.

That one had an incredible amount of depth and a decent story to boot. I love the tales of games, but this particular one was an alarming amount greater than the rest.
If sampling the franchise, that's one you should definitely try. (Voice acting, too! And in a PS1 game, no less!

On another note, while I appreciate an attempt to appeal to gamers, this idea of going around and polling interests just smacks of brainlessness. They just want to make something that appeals to huge masses instead of coming up with a great concept on their own. That always leads to trouble. Get a vision, embrace that vision, and tell the world your story and they will appreciate it (e.g. Last Guardian, Bioshock, L.A. Noire, RDR, MGS4, Uncharted)
Furthermore, an RPG aimed at a world audience running on the Unreal engine huh? *cough* Last Remnant *cough*

Also, you don't know what a plot is. But that's ok. Most people confuse story with plot. I think you meant to say the story wasn't deep enough to keep you going. The plot is well executed. That opinion is fine to have if that is your experience.
But to call the game boring just tells me you are clearly just not into that style of game... because it executed it's style to -perfection-. And critics and professionals would agree with that.
Dragon Warrior 7 had more depth to the gameplay than any game you've ever enjoyed, I guarantee that.
