Battlefield 3 Sells Well After Launch, Hits 8 Million

Analysts predicted Battlefield 3 could sell an impressive 12 million units in its lifetime.

Well, that's certainly possible. After becoming the single biggest day-one shipment in EA's history (10 million units shipped on launch day), DICE's shooter has continued to sell well at retailers worldwide.

During an investor presentation, EA CFO Eric Brown gave us a little sales update: Battlefield 3 has now shipped 12 million copies and sold 8 million. Sure, this is behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (6.5 million sold on launch day), but EA is getting what they wanted: a critically acclaimed, popular title.

And by the way, fan backlash - including a lawsuit - has resulted in EA making good on their promise to PlayStation 3 owners. Therefore, if you bought BF3 on PS3, you will eventually have free access to Battlefield 1943.

Its a nice break from COD games but MW3 is a better game....

I think they're actually pretty even, they just have different strengths, and really they're quite different gaming experiences.

I'm glad it's getting the good sales it deserves, dice put quite a bit of effort into the game. Also it means there will be a BF4, and I want to see what else they can do with the frostbite 2 engine.

I haven't once (except in single player) have had the urge to break my controller in BF3, and the same cannot be said about CoD.. I just find BF3 to be a more relaxed and fun experience! There's just so much to do, unlike CoD I feel.

Those are solid numbers. I heard EA is also working on a Dead Space FPS. Sounds strange considering its survival horror roots.

Off topic:

I just read on CVG that ICO's creator Ueda has left Sony. :( I guess The Last Guardian just took a serious blow.

He's still working on The Last Guardian but he's doing it freelance now. And he'll remain freelance afterwards to do his own projects.

The timing of this is odd. Why the need to go freelance before a project that was announced many years ago is finished? Strange. Typifies what is wrong with the Japanese gaming industry. They announce games and seem to take forever to finish them. This game has not even been shown at trade show yet. It's been close to 5 years already.

I'll shut up now since this off topic.

Which is better is totally in the eye of the beholder. Since they are both great titles who both recieved the same score pretty much all around, especially at this site, it really just comes down to what your a fan of. I'm battlefield all the way but i'd probably play mw3 if someone had it. I just won't spend my money on it. To say which is better is kind of fan boy-ish to be honest. Oh and the whole bf3 vs. mw3 argument is hilarious. The worse in people starts to come out and people get so immature. LOL. I can totally see how gamers get the stereotype they have with the posts i've seen on that topic.

bf3 is just a complete and fun with epic moments with tanks jets choppers jeeps well scaled maps great grafix a rank system that is great weapons unlocked system is great dog tags unlocks and takeing your enemy tags is great , of course there are things we all wish were a little different some love it the way it is and it takes practice to get better some pick up right away granted but u can say as u rank up or u see a higher rank they earned it and u can tell there skill and one thing is for certain bf3 is a place even bad company 2 where a lot of players have become friend and meet and respect there fellow players.ps sometimes i do screem at blue squad at time but there were moments they saved my ass

not bad, not bad at all!
i was pretty close, i said 10M sales in the first month.
entrance of xkey, and the patch to play it on 3.55FW would of hurt it a fair bit, so considering how many times its been pirated its probably already broken 10M.
