Evolution: MotorStorm Vita Project Saved Our Studio

MotorStorm: Apocalypse was a really fun game, but it had a lot of obstacles in its path.

It was originally slated to release on March 18, but after the disastrous earthquake in Japan, Sony decided to tactfully delay the launch until the fall. Perhaps it was the delay that hurt, because despite widespread critical approval, the game didn't do well on the sales charts.

And so, developer Evolution Studios was concerned that such a failure "might be the end." But Sony has kept the team together and tasked them with making a new series entry for the PlayStation Vita, the previously announced MotorStorm RC, which features remote-controlled vehicles. Evolution game director Matt Southern told Eurogamer that he appreciates Sony's support.

"It's been quite a tough year for us, especially early on in the year. We made a game we're really proud of and for some really heartbreaking reasons things didn't go so well. In perspective we've got nothing to complain about.

I was worried it might be the end of Evolution. Racing has had a very tough time, even without extraordinary circumstances like the ones we went through."

But things are moving forward and Southern added that it's "an absolute joy to have been part of Sony." Well, whether MotorStorm RC sinks or floats, you really can't blame Sony for failing to support their internal studios. This isn't the first time we've heard such a story.

Motorstorm to me was one of my favourite francises.

After Pacific rift they went downhill. Mostly because they dropped the amazing physics and tracks for some rip-off of spilt-second. What where they thinking? They must-have played the crap outta that game. This R/C game doesn't look too promising either.

Evolution needs to bring the old motorstorm back!!!

I've never played a Motorstorm game. I may with the Vita one though because I doubt there will be AAA games all the time to play on there.

Apocalypse is a sleeper. Very good game and I like the destructive twists. They brought new life to the game. In the others if someone got ahead of you on a bike it was a wrap. Maybe sales will pick up for the holidays.

Unfortunately for them, not only was this a year of some great racing games, it was a year of great exclusives. Too many games and not enough money...

I don't even see this game in smaller stores!
