CoD Elite: Fastest Growing Subscription Service Ever?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest damn thing since sliced bread. And Call of Duty Elite isn't far behind on the ridiculous "holy sh**, that's friggin popular" meter.
Offering a wealth of extra content and other goodies for those who subscribe, Elite improves upon and enhances your CoD experience. And apparently, even though we don't have anything official, Elite is the fastest growing subscription service ever.
That's right, not even Netflix, Hulu Plus, Xbox Live, or Sirius XM can boast the numbers of Elite. In fact, it took 'em a year to reach the stats of Elite, and that service hasn't exactly been around very long.
"The audience response to Call of Duty Elite’s premium service has been beyond our expectations, and we want to thank Call of Duty players around the world for their unprecedented enthusiasm.
The number of gamers who have registered for Call of Duty Elite further illustrates how this service is poised to redefine social gaming and set a new bar for interactive entertainment."
Don't gloat too much, CoD fans; we really have to see a press release with actual numbers before we confirm the truth of this headline. Usually, Activision loves to brag about such plateaus so we should be seeing that press release at some point...if not, just accept this as some completely unnecessary CoD promotion. And we apologize in advance.

I don't have mw3 yet, but I would not mind playing it. I can guarantee I'll never get the mgs collection, and I can easily wait for the bargain bin before picking up Uncharted 3. Indeed we are not sheep.
You should not assume too much about the psxe readers. We are a diverse bunch (I do play Skyrim though, I'll admit that).
But one of the most sheepish thing you can do around here is posting negative comments about COD. *That's* sheep behaviour for ya. Bleat bleat! :D

But there's the difference. I look at it realistically. I say it's fun and is worth a purchase so long as your gaming habits support it. BUT, you will never see me agreeing that it's quality is somehow reflected by it's sales figures. Others claim it's the best thing ever.... *rolls eyes*
CoD sheep do exist. I've seen it. And what has been seen, cannot be unseen.

I think the next time I had a yard sale, I'm just going to stencil "Call of Duty" on to everything. I'd probably be sold out of everything within an hour.
Have kittens that you're trying to get rid of? Shave "Modern Warfare" into their sides and say that they're an endangered CoD species. They'll be gone by the end of the day!
Have a piece-of-s#!t car that you want to get rid of, but nobody's buying because it's a rust-bucket and a lemon. Throw in a subscription to Call of Duty: Elite and say bye-bye to your p.o.s.

Additionally, Elite by default is NOT a paid service, you only have to register to become a member; you CAN however pay for additional features/dlc if required.

But it's a good business set up for the premium version. If you get it, you get all DLC (which at the end will be worth $75, according to it's pricing, anyways) so if you were already going to get it, it's a good price. You also get a few extra online niceties. In addition to that, if you sign up before Dec. 13 or 15 or whatever it is now, you get founder status, and you get 2 hours of dbl exp and 500exp towards your clan exp.
But here's where the peer pressure will get people to pay up....
First of all, you don't get to make a gold clan tag until clan level 10. Which means, until then, anyone could take your clan tag from you. So leveling up is a must for a clan. You get 500 exp if you join or start a clan while having founder status... 500exp= roughly an entire level. You can see how a clan that wants to hit that lvl 10 mark quickly will pressure the clan.
Free members can only help out clan challenges... which isn't that big of a deal. Clan operations, the big one that gives the clan it's exp, can only contribute if they are premium subscribers.
So people who regularly play with friends in a clan.... yeah... you're going to feel pressure to pay up so you feel like you're actually helping.
It's an ingenious marketing ploy, if I'm honest. Still, though.... I definitely feel like the clan stuff should just be a part of the game. The paying members should be getting the DLC and in-game perks. If you have friends who are students or don't have extra cash... it doesn't really feel right to me to be asking them to pay up just so they can actually be a part of things while being a part of things.
