New DMC Gameplay Footage: Dante Is Still Dante

When the first images of the Devil May Cry reboot hit the 'Net, hardcore fans were a little miffed. Just a tad.

But over time, we've come to accept that initial screenshots of the heroin-addict Dante weren't indicative of his look throughout the game, and above all else, gameplay quality is essential.

Ninja Theory is a talented developer and they've cut their teeth on similar action quests before. Some will say Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West didn't offer the combat depth of any past DMC entry (and they'd be right), but check out this new gameplay trailer. You can't say you're not at least a little impressed... Or if not impressed, hopeful...?

Having played and completed every entry (except DMC2), I'd have to say this looks a lot like the combat I remember. There are obviously new moves and weapons, and the Scorpion-esque "come over here!" element might be overused (remember Nero's arm in DMC4?), but this is definitely DMC in my eyes. What say you?

I saw this yesterday and it kinda got me a little more excited about this game. I enjoy Ninja Theory's work so I think if anything it will be interesting to see what they do with the series now.

Okay... I dig it. The graphics are awesome, the gameplay looks very DMC-ish, the music's rocking, I like the voice actor... I'll definitely give this game a shot. I wasn't too worried, though, because I wasn't in the group of people hating on this game or on Ninja Theory. I enjoyed Heavenly Sword and I thought Enslaved was one of the most underrated games of 2010, so I trusted them. Dante's hair and design look a lot better in this video than they did in the original pictures/screenshots, too.

As a stand-alone title, it looks pretty cool. As a Devil May Cry title, it still looks like a step backward for the series graphically and gameplay-wise.

I played Bayonetta recently after a long hiatus from that game and was overwhelmed by how beautiful the graphics/scenery are and how fluid the combat is. Just amazing. Considering that's pretty much a Devil May Cry title, I would say Ninja Theory just can't compete (they're lucky Platinum Games didn't announce a sequel for a 2012 release).

I'm still interested but just not hyped. I'll grab it someday when the price drops to 20 dollars or so.

I think it looks very much like DMC from a graphical perspective.

Bayonetta is better than anything showed until now about the new DMC, still I'm gonna give it a chance NT makes good games.

There is a reason they say it's a product still in development.

What does that have to do with anything? Neither Capcom nor Ninja Theory has given an official release date for it yet so far everyone is just ASSUMING it comes out sometime late 2012 but it hasn't been made official

It looks okay. I'll TRY to keep an open mind. I dare say if this game does not sell Ninja Theory's days may be numbered. The truth is I've never liked them that much. They cried about all the negativity around the PS3's launch hurting Heavenly Sword, and said 1.5 million copies sold was not good enough for a new IP. They piled on Sony when Sony was already down. I'll never forget that.

Also this game uses the Unreal engine. Unreal and the PS3 go together like oil and water unless a developer is extremely adept.

Gameplay looked solid..Dante doesn't look strung out in this trailer which is a plus..So I'll give it a try when it arrives but the story has me worried though...

gamelooks ridiculous!!! i can't wait for this top come out. It looks like NT used the same motion capture technology for lip syncing dialogue which is awesome!!! I love how the environment gets all torn up when demons come out. Gameplay looks really good in my opinion. Can't wait for this game!!!

Something looks off to me. I played and mastered DMC3 so I guess I'm comparing it to that games genius combat system. I will however have to try it to know if it "feels" like DMC but for now something looks a little off but I can't quite say what. I do know that the enemies looked far too easy but again I have to play it first.

Also I miss Dantes cocky attitude but maybe he will develop that throughout the game?

The opener, where he was casually putting out his smoke on the bad guys head with his characteristic sneer.

LOVE it. And I'm glad Dante has been redesigned again. I'm probably the only one to notice it but they've fixed his hair so it isn't a strip on top of his head, looks better.

And thank you Cole for those static thrusters!

I noticed the change in his do, too, most likely reflecting Tameem's recent visit to the hairdresser.

Exactly, upon seeing dante doesn't look like a complete failure anymore, I've been more lenient towards the game now. It might actually be something I'll pick up eventually now.

Yeah, "DAnte" looks better. The trailer made me hopeful & excited. But like some dude above said, it looks too easy. It won't sit well with me if I can finish the game on its last two difficulties like I can Uncharted & GoW games. & that "Devil Bringer" was being overused.

Here's hoping that one day the old Dante comes back though.

Some of his techniques were in previous DMC too and that's good know.
All that's left is whether they have my favourite, Stinger.

And I'm quite impressed with how smooth the game is despite running on Unreal Engine 3.

Not going to lie, absolutely DETESTED Ninja Theory when it was announced that they was working on the new DMC....simply because they made Dante look like a drug addict and their games weren't exactly known for being the most complex, combat-wise.

However, I will gladly take back what I said, just because it seems that they are doing something right :)

Dante sounds like "Dante" again, and doesn't look like he belongs in a nut house....

That said, I' still weary about the combat...it seems like whoever is playing is pulling off crazy combos with ease, which is NOT what I imagine a DMC game to be. The gameplay was ALWAYS the best part.....

Anyway, I've said enough. I'll just sit and wait patiently until a release date is announced. I suppose I'm just happy that DMC is back on my radar again :)

This is still lacking what made Devil May Cry what it was, this isn't the same thing, it's a cheap imitation and I doubt it ever will change in my perspective unless the story the original games followed will tie in correctly but it wont, it's trash for the newer generation in hopes to gain more money. I hope it fails and they bring us the real Devil May Cry 5...

It's an all new story with an alternate-universe Dante, so no it won't tie in.

It will be interesting to see how Ninja Theory pisses me off this time! :) They really know how to get under my skin!
However, this looks very good. I actually like the Scorpionesque Get Over Here move!

I tried DMC4 and just couldn't get into it, so not sure I will be getting this one. It looks good and all that just DMC4 never grabbed me as much as I thought it would do. Shame really I could have enjoyed it had I gotten into it.

Imo people had started to look for the bad and kept looking for the bad, but it seems that NT is already turning heads. Still, I was sold from the start, if it's bad I'll just jet through it and trade it in but I have two questions, "when was a DMC bad", and "when has NT put out something bad?"

An no person can truly say DMC2 was bad, because I have been top to bottom in that game and though it lacks the polish of what we have nowadays and the first, it has a great deal of elements that make it fun...

In anycase, I sit back and continue to smile at the progress towards this new entry, but I think I'll try to get the HDC to tide me off till the new entry surfaces.
