PSXE Poll Update: Kojima Can Try Something New, But...
It was actually a little difficult to interpret the results of this past week's poll.
Gamers were split concerning Hideo Kojima's future approach: many said he should try something completely different, while almost the exact same number said he should stick with Metal Gear Solid while attempting a new project. A fair number also said he shouldn't get away from MGS at all.
Well, it probably shouldn't be surprising. We imagine the master himself has conflicting emotions on the subject; i.e., "my fans love MGS and I can't let them down, but I really want to try something new." The new is always a little scary, even for a bona fide genius like Kojima. It's a sticky situation, but we're sure he'll always produce gems. This week, we want to know what your take is on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It has gotten a lot of attention recently.
Absolutely fantastic Game of the Year candidate? Too broken to even be considered? Glitches and flaws being blown out of proportion? Let us know.

The side missions are Skyrim are much better than they were in Oblivion. You don't HAVE to get distracted by them. You can just stay on the main quest if you like. Starting a side mission is as simple as pulling up the menu.
Oblivion was a game I could never really get into but for some reason I find myself loving Skyrim. You might want to give it a chance. It is a superior game to Oblivion in every conceivable way. I'm having more fun on my second playthrough than my first. Plus the playtime you can get from this game is simply amazing.

As far as Skryim goes: 100+ hrs & 5 freezes. When you add that up, it's a very minor annoyance that will be fixed soon. If not, I'll still be very happy with my purchase.

Ahem, ah yeah Skyrim is greatness but the glitches can be annoying. GOTY contender? Yes and no. It's good enough, and should get RPG of the year, but I don't think it's a legitimate contender for GOTY just because there's usually something "breakout" about that title and Skyrim is a wonderful step for the Elder Scrolls, I love it, but it doesn't take anything to huge heights.

I can't vote on any Skyrim issues cause I haven't gotten it cause RPG's don't work for me.
I will buy it later on when it's get's a huge price drop.
BTW, I was in GameStop buying tonight & I see the used copies of Skyrim have already fallen down to $49.99 & there were tons of copies, so it seems that at least at my store, a lot of people have been returning their PS3 versions.
After my wheeling & dealing at Gamestop, I picked up Flashpoint:Red River for only $21 and also snatched up the Anarchy Edition of Rage for only $3.50. And on Jan 1st, I'll be taking another $35 off of any game in the store.

Skyrim is no doubt a great rpg, but the way the game can break down keeps it just shy from GOTY contender. No game that makes you rage quit becuase you are fed up with framerate problems or other issues can be GOTY in my book. Without these issues it is GOTY material.

As for Skyrim, any time you have widespread issues, those need to be fixed, ASAP. But judging from my experience with TES, these tend to get blown way out of proportion. In the 10 years I've been a fan of this series, I've yet to run across anything that was more than a minor annoyance, at worst.

As for Skyrim being GOTY, i cannot comment as i haven't played the game. Never was a fan of Oblivion/Fallout etc as they're just not my kind of thing but i have seen some videos & it looks pretty damn impressive.
My GOTY personally though would probably be Uncharted 3 as i've never played a game where every chapter is just crammed with amazing set pieces & exciting "wow" worthy moments. It was an awe inspiring experience from start to credits & i actually felt a little torn up inside after beating it so quickly, simply because it is one of those games where you want to just saviour every chapter but can't resist to go that little bit further every time.
So, Uncharted 3 GOTY for me with Tekken Hybrid, King of Fighters XIII & MGS HD Collection all drawed at second ;)

especially after the ending of MGS4, where could they fit a new title in?
ok a prequel, but the MGS storyline is already cluttered as it is it needs a break!
not to mention with all these ridiculous spin offs like acid and rising.......
as for slyrim, far too buggy and not good enough to be GOTY.
decent game but its really inconsistent, and the combat is as deep and entertaining as Oprah!
portal 2 should get GOTY, its THE ONLY game this year that is literally flawless!
every game this year you could easily pick faults with, portal 2 you cant it really is perfect!
awesome story, fantastic humour, great voice acting, the best characters in a game EVER!
very few games make you relate to the characters, but portal 2 did perfectly!
i really felt sorry for wheatly at the start because hes like a little servant, wants to help you but is scared what will happen.
then GLaDOS, you start off hating her, then you get a peek into her life and start to understand why she does things.
and then the ending, i saw it and said oh no there not going to do that there just teasing us!
then they did it, i mean come on that was so cool!
then the singing turrets at the end, or the song covering the credits.
nothings made me reflect on the game and make me sad its finished as much as portal 2, it just had such a perfect ending!
made me feel like a kid in a candy shop, at disney land, on his bday!
i dunno how valve do it, but every game they release, god dam it i wish they could run every game studio that way every game would be as good as this!
portal 2 does not only deserve GOTY, it deserves GOTG!
best game released since this generation started!

the combat is too shallow especially for a RPG there suppose to have deep combat systems.
look at the witcher 2, that has a FAR better combat system then this!
also the floaty controls get really annoying, like allot of reviews mentioned enemies feel like there made out of air.
you do too.
every time you get struck you dont feel like it, and every time you strike a enemy it feels like your cutting through thin air!
i got to try out kingdoms of amalour reckoning the combat system in that is FAR better then this!
each weapon feels unique, and they all have a weighty feel to them.
99% of your time spent in skyrim is spent hacking through enemies, so its really disappointing when it feels this empty.

CVG is reporting today at their site that Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas director, Joshua Sawyer, told fans on 'Formspring' that the game's PS3 lag issues are likely an "engine-level issue" that would take a "large time commitment" to fix.
Asked by a user if the engine problems are exclusive to PS3, Sawyer answered, "As with Fallout 3 and Skyrim, the problems are most pronounced on the PS3 because the PS3 has a divided memory pool."
Skyrim's problems are "an engine-level issue with how the save game data is stored", he claimed.
Now, do you think Bethesda still deserves to see Skyrim reach GOTY status?
IMO, how they approach PS3 future game development and how they make the engine save and reference data, needs to change for the better. Its something they need to look into. We can't bury our heads in the sand and pretend everything is a-ok.
I rather have Bethesda know that they need to be a lot more careful next time. And to start treating PS3 owners with some damn respect. I want that. Don't you?

Yes, Bethesda needs to treat PS3 owners with more respect. That was the main point I was trying to get accross. Yes, there are bugs on all platforms but PS3 owners always get something special they have to deal with when it comes to their games. Bethesda's games tend to be less stable on the PS3, and they don't run as smoothly. Don't even get me started on the PS3 versions of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I would say Skyrim runs better than those games ever did up to a point, but PS3 owners still got the short end of the stick again. There is enough evidence out there to show that it is the PS3 users having the most problems in my opinion. Again I would point to Bethesda refusing to send out the PS3 version for review. That is damning in itself. So, yes I would agree Bethesda needs to be more careful the next time.

I did not blame Sony once in any of those posts regarding Skyrim. It was Bethesda I was after. I just pointed out Bethesda's games tend to have issues on the PS3. I guess some don't like hearing that(even though it's true) becuase they think it makes the PS3 look like $hit or something. That's not what I was trying get accross at all. I would note that World said on that very thread we are talking about that he did not want to see framerates like these on Sony's next machine, but nobody had a problem with that. Hmm? Anyways, it's Bethesda's fault. Not the PS3's. Another thing, no matter how many times I get shot down, it won't change the fact that Bethesda can do a better job on the PS3. Does anybody really disagree with that?

No. And nobody has.
The only point Ben had ever made counter to your point, is that UP UNTIL the save file size that causes the freezing, Skyrim performs admirably on PS3. And in some instances, better. No one is pretending the issues aren't there. Ben's written articles sometimes even asking if reviewers should re-review it!!

A new title would be great because if it is a success (which is likely, actually), sequels are inevitable. That translates into more software (and hardware) sales whilst catering to the fans who have something new and different to look forward to each time. It keeps the fans happy while Kojima-san and team take pride in awe-and-shocking us again (at the same time getting richer so he can keep tweeting on the iPhone 8 TBA...lol).
I guess, I want to see something new. After that, I welcome another MGS title. DO SOMETHING NEW KOJIMA-SAN!

The truth is all he can do is MGS and there is nothing wrong with that.
If that guy just sat down and worked on a new game as much as he tweets his wish to do so, we would already be playing that new game.

As for Skyrim, not bothered by it at all... I played Oblivion, sure the game is big, but the content is just repetitive. The main story was just interupted by to many side missions that as a player I just lost focus and interest in the main story.
