Valve's New Project Is "Something With A 3 In It"

If you've been keeping up with the news lately, you know the hot rumor involves Valve and Half-Life 3.

First came some speculation and a very intricate breakdown of the Wheatley video at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. You can see more on that at VividGamer; there's also evidence that might support a Half-Life 3 unveiling within the next couple of months.

But it doesn't end there. Another rumor focuses on Valve boss Gabe Newell and some intriguing e-mails that may or may not be fake. If they're real, Valve will be announcing "something with a 3 in it," possibly at E3 2012. But there are a few problems with that...there are several potentially viable options, remember: Left 4 Dead 3 and Portal 3. Now, we just got Portal 2 earlier this year, so perhaps there are only two real possibilities.

But we're pretty damn sure we know what most gamers want. L4D garnered plenty of followers, but let's face it: a new Half-Life would be huge. Bigger than huge.

Please give me Half Life 3, not Episode3. I want to love a single player FPS again.

Seeing as how a Valve employee was spotted wearing a Half Life 3 shirt a week or two ago, it could mean good things for us Half Life fans. But I'll take a part three of any of the titles mentioned above.

If it goes back to the formula TFC used then I would gladly support this. After spending years in TFC clans my heart broke when I finally got my hands on TF2 after years of development time.

Totally for HL3. I suspect because the projected next-gen hardware spec is theoritcally known, Valve may have started right to work on a new Source engine to base HL3 on.
With HL2 being one of my all time favorite FPS games, I'm very excited to see it's sequel.

Listen, I already know Half-Life 3 is being made, we know that. With the VGAs 1-1-1 I believe it could be Left 4 Dead 3. I would be really happy with L4D3 because it would then be released on the PS3!! I played L4D for almost a year on the PC. Amazing COOP experience!
I believe Valve is waiting to release HL3 due to a new Source 2 engine. They are waiting for the next generation of consoles. They also want to make sure it's ultra polished. The PS4 and the other console will be able to give it justice. I cannot think of another reason why HL3 hasn't been released yet. It takes time to create a new engine and perfect it. Especially HL3 which I am sure receives much love due to it's insane fan base.
Wow, every HL3 article I see takes me back to HL2EP2's awesome but sad ending! Cannot wait for more HL!

EA did the port. Not Valve. And they will do just fine considering Portal 2 on PS3 was pretty much flawless.

Oh god, I REALLY got to get my PS3 fixed. With GTA V and HL3 coming out, there would be a lot for me to miss if I wouldn't get a new one.

i really wish they would do a new half life game.
its been so long since the last one came out, and the orange box did so well!
come on valve, its time for the shooter that proved shooters can have a amazing story to return!
actually, no, it was time years ago but eh.

I hope Valve lets off some steam and produces something special. Half Life 3 would be great. If they are going to make HL3 for PS3 I hope they get some good optimisation advice from Sony and do a decent job of it, otherwise they shan't get one penny from me.

If I was a developer, I would say stuff like this to intentionally mislead people, when what I'm actually working on is some new game that just happens to have the number 3 in it.

Metro 2033 has a three in it, but is not the third game in a series.

Although, Valve probably isn't as sadistic as I am.

If it's any incarnation of HL, it has to be HL2 E3. They can't just jump into HL3 to continue the story of HL2...
