New FFXIII-2 Trailer Brings Out The Monster Hunter In Us
Hope you like to catch those monsters.
As you probably know, the biggest new feature in Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the ability to catch and train monsters. They can be deployed in battle and obviously, they each have a unique set of skills and abilities.
The latest trailer from Square Enix, entitled "Master of Monsters," brings you inside this intriguing mechanic. It's probably deeper than you might think, because you can train your monster's abilities in very much the same way you'll train Noel and Serah. This better be mesmerizing, too, because Noel and Serah are the only two human characters that will ever be used in combat.
So, were you into the Pokemon craze way back when? Were you a fan of Blue Magic in the old Final Fantasy titles? If so, this should be right up your alley, and we imagine completionists will want to locate, capture and use every last monster in FFXIII-2. Right?

If I understand things correctly, monster hunting games have always been much bigger in Japan than I'm the US, so i can at least understand why the would include it. but even so, every single thing I hear about this game makes me less and less willing to ever by a S-E game again.

0.01) I took the 'Monster Hunter' as a reference to the game series of the same name, and was mildly disappointed when I realized that said reference was (hopefully) unintentional, because Monster Hunter is -nothing- like what I saw in that trailer. But...
0.02) When this game was announced, I was, honestly, skeptical. While I, fully, did enjoy FF13, and the other -2 FF (X-2), I was a little disheartened when I learned that 13-2 was (from what I gather) about time travel. Now, in my experience, stories involving time travel always come off as gimmicky, and often turn out being about "What if cell phones and guns were brought back to the dark ages?" or "Let's show them an 'inevitable' future, and then have the entire story be about -changing the end of the story.-". (Note: Chrono series excluded, for obvious reasons.)
0.03) However, after watching that trailer, I can honestly forgive the time travel bit, and put this on the "Maybe not first day, but definitely within a month of release" purchase list. Why? Because, I don't see Pokemon (a series that I loved once, but then got tired of when they just made the same game three more times, but with 'slightly' different looking critters). No, I see JADE COCOON! Now every time I drop that name, people give me the strangest looks. And, I don't mean that crappy sequel they made on PS2, I mean the first one, on PS1, where you were one kid, roaming this giant forest, and collecting bees, rhinos, and creepy looking gorilla things, then mashing them all together to make abominations that would make Darwin cry. Granted, you probably can't make such creatures in 13-2, but the general idea is still there.

1) Camera in battle is all over the frickin' place. Makes me dizzy. Changing the angle constantly doesn't make the gameplay faster... it makes me sea-sick.
2) QTE's seem like a VERY regular occurrence. Far too regular for me.
3) One of the QTE's was up, up, Y..... My controller doesn't even HAVE a 'Y' button.

Underdog, c'mon, man. Number was because it wasn't on the PS3?
Would it be the same if you were watching a Skyrim video for the PC?
NoGoat, dude please, y'know they won't allow you to get them big-ass bosses for obvious reasons. But here's hoping, right? LONG GUI FTW! Snap, I'll dump(if I even get it in the first place) Serah & Noel for a 'Tortoise & Gui.

Which reminds me. I'm surprised the turn based rpg fans on this site don't crave for pokemon and digimon dawn/dusk. Is it because they are nintendo exclusives?
