BioWare: Next Dragon Age Will Be More "Open-World"
Well, if you had to emulate another game's style, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim isn't a bad one to imitate.
In the past, BioWare's Dragon Age series has featured mostly linear adventures; the sequel was even more linear than Dragon Age: Origins. But it seems BioWare is taking another look at their chosen gameplay style for Dragon Age III.
According to a Wired interview with BioWare boss Ray Muzyka, the team is taking both fan feedback and the competition into account. The latter involves looking at Bethesda's recently released Skyrim, which is the epitome of an open-world, freedom-oriented role-playing game. After all, the title has already shipped 10 million units. Said Muzyka:
"[The next Dragon Age] is going to have the best of features from the prior Dragon Age games, but it's also going to have a lot of things I think players are going to find compelling from some of the games that are out now that are doing really well with more of an open-world feel. We're checking [Skyrim] out aggressively. We like it. We're big admirers of [Bethesda] and the product. We think we can do some wonderful things."
We have no idea when the third Dragon Age may arrive, but it's nice to see a developer taking a few cues from another talented team. ...well, provided you think they're approaching things correctly. Maybe you liked the linear aspect of Dragon Age II and aren't interested in the sandbox style and if so, you're probably annoyed at this news.
But hey, you can't please everyone all the time, right?

And I certainly look forward to the next 'Dragon Age', but I hope it's not too much of a radical change (which I think threw off a lot of people who loved 'Origins' and were confused by 'II's major changes in structure).

Side note: Although people have been dogging capcom this generation I have HIGH hopes for Dragon's Dogma I hope they dont let me down. Because that game seems like a cross of Dragon Age and skyrim from what I've been hearing.

And let's hope this one isn't a "mash a couple buttons" affair again. DAII was boring after the first couple missions. Plus the story was pretty bleh; you really didn't do anything that was world-changing till the very end (unless you count world-changing as making your reputation better and solving a few domestic crises).

I have yet to play the second one but I have platinumed the first one and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The last couple of trophies started to really bring out the repetition, but overall I thought it was a great game. I have no issue with this approach as I like open-world/sandbox games in general, even Bethesda's with all the problems they have.
