Analyst: GTAV Will Be Bigger Than Call Of Duty In 2012

Well, there's no doubt that it'll come down to Grand Theft Auto V and the new Call of Duty.

That's in regards to the "biggest game of 2012" award. According to what EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich told IndustryGamers, Rockstar has the edge:

"It goes without saying that GTA V will be one of the year's biggest releases, but I will take it one step farther and say GTA V will be 2012's biggest release. Don't get me wrong, Call of Duty will undoubtedly be huge, as it is every year and it may even grow, but if I had to call what will be a photo finish race, I will go with GTA V."

That might not be out of the realm of possibility. GTAIV sold upwards of 20 million copies and although Modern Warfare 3 will ultimately sell 25 or 26 million (as previously projected), we're still hazy on next year's Call of Duty. Nothing is hazy about GTAV; it's going to be absolutely gigantic and the fans have been waiting for a while.

You know, it doesn't feel like April 2008 was a long time ago but in a world where "annualization" is becoming popular, it certainly feels like a long time, doesn't it?

I'm not sure about beating call of duty in sales

sure modern warfare 3 had a lot a negative feedback, but in a year, people will pay for more of it...

But I wouldn't be surprised if the next games does less sales than MW3

I'm with you, to me there is no way GTAV will outsell CoD. I'm not a fan of either franchise(though I love the first 2 GTA's on the PS1), but CoD fans are I hate to say it "stupid". It will unfortunately sell even more next year, and I am willing to put money on that. It is a shame that CoD can make that kind of money when there are hundreds of other games that deserve that kind of recognition, however I am also not foolish enough to equate sales to quality.

GTAV will absolutely make a lot of money and it no doubt will sell a lot of copies, but to me it just doesn't stand a chance against CoD. I personally can't wait for fans of CoD to wake up and realize they have been ripped off over and over again, but Madden fans have yet to receive this wake up call, so CoD has a bright future because of poor customer decisions.

Calling anyone "stupid" is wrong even if they are COD fans. You can't label an entire group of people, and there are a lot of people, by the stupidity of some.

I have feeling that the next COD will be a sale killer again. In quality, GTAV will be the better game. Can't wait to stare at the beautiful landscapes in GTAV.

I think he is flat wrong on this. MW3's sales were record breaking once again. Along with its huge name recognition COD has the social aspect of the multiplayer driving its sales along with the twitch factor. COD just has more going for it when it comes to factors that drive game sales.

Don't care about either. The industry needs to move on from both in my view. No matter how amazingly vibrant the city might be going around killing random pedestrians is really of the past now and mission based, linear gameplay.

GTAV will sell well, though, I don't see it beating out COD. Let's be honest, the casual audience has taken the reigns for awhile now, and the products released(and sold well) are an example of that. Don't get me wrong, the quality of GTA will continue to surpass it's previous installments(depending on who you ask), and it'd be a killer in terms of sales.

Online gaming is huge, and the last time I played 'The Ballad of Gay Tony' online, I found it increasingly difficult to find someone to play with each time I got on. This includes the regular GTAIV and 'The Lost and Damned'. However, last time I played Call of Duty 2, I found more then a handful of devoted players that played it(it's been awhile since then, so I don't know how it is now).

So, in my opinion, COD will be bigger in terms of sales, but GTA will be bigger in terms of quality.

thats pretty much guaranteed!
1 because treyarch games are not as popular as MW games.
2 theres been allot of backlash from MW3, people are starting to wake up and smell the cheese.
3 weve waited 4 years for GTAV, we would of only waited less then 1 for the next cod.
4 its a R* game, R* games always sell through the roof!
5 GTAIV sold 20+M starting 08 where there was a much lower saturation rate.
12 there will obviously be far more current gen owners, so the gap from saturation rate from GTAIV to GTAV will be higher then the saturation rate from this years cod to next years.
im almost convinced GTAV will sell more!
IF GTAV is out next year of course, which i cant believe it is.
they still have MP3 to release, and agent.
unless thats been canned, but R* keep insisting its not.

Yeah it feels like FOREVER since GTA4. It doesn't really matter how many copies COD sells, 2012 will be the year of the GTA.

I Luv GTA in all but it wont sell more than the next COD (I'll put money up against no name up there). I'll have them both because im a FAN not a mindless sheep. ALL I REALLY WANT IS FOR R* TO SAY NO TO M$ FOR ANY EXCLUSIVES THEY TRY TO GET BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER DLC 1 YEAR AFTER IT RELEASES ON THE box.

GTA will sell more than COD because even sheep know when the pasture's dried up and next ones greener. COD will eventually's just a matter of time. Seems like nobody remembers that GTA used to be the big seller not to long ago, I don't think it's out of the realm to believe this will kill COD.

That being said I was very disappointed with GTAIV, and if they want to get that D1P from me they better shape up. Im not baby sitting another Brucie.

Nah, not without a killer soundtrack or xross playback with music on the xmb. Oh, and it would definitly have to be of a different and/or (better) time period than the last one. One of the best things about Vice City was the time period the story took place in and the matching music. If it were of today, it would be a boring dull, drained of color and life type game. Because that is how things are today in the world. At least from my perceptive anyway. This sucks compared to the 70's and 80's. Back then everything smiled and was full of colorful ideas. I like realism, but don't mix our boring world in with our games please.
