Valve On Half-Life 3 Rumors: "All False"

There were multiple rumors that appeared to have some teeth, so we had hoped for an official announcement.

Instead, we got a flat denial. Two recent rumors supporting the idea that Valve is currently working on Half-Life 3: a dissected Wheatley speech from an entertaining video at the Spike TV Video Game Awards, and a supposed hint from Valve boss Gabe Newell. But Chet Faliszek was quick to set things right in the Steam forums:

"You are being trolled.

There is no ARG.

Wheatley’s speech was set in Portal 2 fiction – that is all.

There has been no directive from Gabe to leak anything. That is all false.

I just want to say this so there is no confusion. This is the community trolling the community nothing more. While it is nice to see people excited about anything HL, I hate seeing people be trolled like this.

Thanks"

Well, that's disappointing. But at least there's a response now, and we can all stop speculating. ...oh wait, that won't stop the speculation, now will it? It could very well be that Valve is simply protecting the secret, or maybe they're not far enough along in the project just yet. Who knows? We just know we want Half-Life 3 at some point.

Wow, that's ironic since Valve's been trolling us for the past four years now (almost five)!!

Interesting, because Portal is all about Half-Life! Maybe the VGA Wheatley video didn't have any meaning to Half-Life. That doesn't mean Portal isn't a training ground for Half-Life 3. I guarantee you that is exactly what Portal is. Of course this is just MHO. Love you Valve, cannot wait to see what you have in store for us fanatic patient undying Half-Life fans!

Me too, however, I have to have Half-Life 3 on the PS3 too! :) But my prediction is that Half-Life 3 is to advanced to happen on the PS3 or 360. When Valve is done it will come out on the PS4 and 720.

I'm going to be honest, I never understood the big hype over Half-life or Portal and I have played all of these games, while I find them adequate I just help but feel angry when they get awards for best characters and story... I just didn't sense anything worthwhile in them departments.

L4D was fun though, the game play is brilliant with a friend and it offers so much replay value. L4F2 did not add much new to the series, but being more ofthe same was not a bad thing as it was just as enjoyable.

Well you're definitely in the minority with that opinion. While I own both L4D games and really enjoy them for their multiplayer they are only a fraction of the quality demonstrated in the Half-Life series. Half-Life2 deserves all the credit it gets for expanding the FPS formula. I miss when FPS were made with single player as the main part and multiplayer was simply an addition.

If I'm not mistaken Gabe Newell has stated that the Half-Life 2 "episodes" actually ARE Half-Life 3.

Valve simply decided to release the new content in episodic installments as opposed to a full game for a number of reasons.

The three episodes were to be treated as an entire numerical addition to the Half-Life series but with only 2 episodes having been released and the time gap between episode 2 being so long everyone wants Half-Life3 not another episode.

That's interesting but all the same I wouldn't expect it. Valve may be a talented company but in numerous ways it's also a strange one.

Half-Life 3 is happening now as I type this. Only evidence I need is HL2EP2's ending. No way they stop now. Half-Life was at a fever pitch after that ending. I remember thinking I wish my next door neighbor was Doc Brown so that I could see what happens next!

Dammit Valve! I was so pumped when I saw that website. I'll admit I thought it was real but only because of the copyright protected Valve logos and such. I cannot wait for more Half life, its been too long. Well, and for Diablo 3.
