Final Fantasy X HD: "Same Quality As The Original"

Wait, we just heard the collective response from every single Final Fantasy fan on earth: "It damn well better be."

We have a small update on the progress of Final Fantasy X HD, which is supposed to come to both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

According to Gematsu citing a German magazine, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase said the HD version is still early in development, but the team wants to "ensure that the remake will have the same quality as the original." It's interesting that Kitase used the German word "neuauflage," which translates to "remake," "new edition," or "new issue." We've all heard rumors about how FFX HD will use the FFXIII engine and all the major graphical elements (from character design to Aeons) will be redone from scratch. ...which of course would be totally awesome, wouldn't it?

Well, do what you want. But you had best stick to that part about keeping the quality the same; i.e., don't touch the gameplay. A beautiful new HD sheen; that's all we want. Think you can handle that, S-E?

FFX is very well regarded compared to other Final Fantasies, it sold extremely well, and was the reason why many people (myself included) bought a PS2. If that doesn't qualify this as "an actually important FF game", I don't know what would.

Final Fantasy X is overall probaly the best game with while other FF games may excell at other areas i still think 'overall' FFX probaly is the best. But I agree that there is no need if this is a complete remake instead of a HD upgrade.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Remake??? Wasn't it supposed to be an HD update only?

I do NOT like that word and even less when it's paired with FFXIII even if it's the engine for the graphical uphaul... they may get itchy and destroy a masterpiece!

Even though I have played the game a dozen times I am still looking forward to this game. I love everything about it. Very memorable game that had some great music and graphics.

Wow they're rebuilding the visuals from the ground up? That's awesome! FFX is so vibrant and the scenery is already incredible. This is definitely good news.

Now Square, for the love of god, can you please do this with FF......................6?!

FFVI is my sentimental favorite of all the mainline FF titles. Depending on my mood, it might be my OVERALL favorite as well!

A GREAT story, amazing visual style (complete with steampunk themes WAY ahead of its time), stellar soundtrack, and an unforgettable cast of characters that holds up to this day.
When I think about how distinct and well developed the characters in VI were compared to the cookie-cutters that pass as characters in a lot of RPGs today, I long for my childhood even more.

Yes, Luda. It was a 16-bit SNES title, originally launched as Final Fantasy III in the States. It wasn't until it was re-released on the PS1 that it was given it's true, and now permanent, name of Final Fantasy VI.

This actually begs another question:

Will the soundtrack be revised? It was absolutely gorgeous (maybe my favoriite OST), it just wasn't what it should have been on a technical level. The production value could have been better. It was still a little too PS1 era.

So will they revamp it? Or leave it alone?

SE didn't say but they are adding a new soundtrack. Lil Wayne and Drake will compose the music. They will also remix Other world.

that statement "same quality as the original" troubles me. if it was an hd update then that shouldve been a given. however, when they said it, it makes me think that they are rebuilding everything from scratch. i'm seeing final fantasy X hd with final fantasy 13 battle system. the way square enix is doing things makes me think that they truly believe that final fantasy 13 is what they "know" what every final fantasy fan wants in a final fantasy game. if this is true them i might have to pass on final fantasy X hd even though i love the original ps2 game. final fantasy X should be a good example of whether i'd want a final fantasy VII remake if they even plan to make it.

What so this is not just a HD release... Okay now I have problems. I was hoping for just a HD patch up like they have done to so many other PS2 games recently. But if this is a remake in the way that they're building it from the ground up I wont like it.

FFX is perfect the way it is, The game can be strecthed into widescreen on PAL for Europe TVs so even teh aspect ratio is perfect. X in my opinion also had the best battle system of any FF game. I really liked how you controlled the Aeons like a character.

If I were to change one thing it would be to have the better in game character models used all the time. You would notice that sometimes it would use the better character models for some scenes over others. There is nothing else I want changed in this game and if it is done I wont buy it. I don't want another Twin Snakes incendent (Even though the gameplay takes MGS2's superb control system, the cutscenes were diabolical.) I hope they dont change the voice acting too, I know many class it as bad, but it's to ingrained into the characters now, I cant accept anything else.

They didn't expand it, though. They simplified it... made it more compact.

I say they keep a similar play style to that, but add in more different types of tournaments, maybe more teams, more recruitment, etc. etc. etc.

The only thing they should be "remaking" is updating to HD! NONE of the mechanics or the story should be changed.

I'm hoping that they haven't succumbed to George Lucas Syndrome....

I am suprised people are asking more of Final Fantasy X teh game is huge! It has taken me up until last year to finaly beat all the Dark Aeons and beat Penance. That's over ten years of off and on gameplay, my running time was around 180 hours, 70 more than FFXIII the longest running time I have had within a game this gen.

Hah.........what? If they can remake the huge world of FFX from scratch for an entirely new engine, re-rendering everything, then FFVII is no problem.

I don't really care whether or not FFVII gets remade, actually. Not at all. But this is obviously hypocritical. What's the deal here?

As long as the gameplay as untouched and it looks like it did before, I'll be happy with this. Of course, I'd still be happy with the version you can get for $6 on eBay...this version needs to be substantially prettier to make it worth it. So I can see why they'd need to redo it, too.

Wonder if S.E are thinking of making it mostly or entirely with the games graphic engine would probably make it easier and faster to produce FF10 and may 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ?

I'v more reason to buy FF10-HD (full price)rather than FFXIII-2 (even at reduced price)so S.E better not come out and say the remake of FFX hangs on how well FFXIII-2 sells :-P

Hopefully this is the start of a FF revival showing S.E there is still room for a more turn based game and if they are in fact wanting to churn out more games more often then maybe there action games can alternate / live along side turnbased gameplay rather than trying to replace it.

Give me back a more relaxing FF :-)
