Still No Alan Wake For PS3 Owners

Alan Wake remains one of our favorite games of the generation, and one PS3 owners wish they had.

Remedy is working on a new title for the Xbox Live Arcade, and they just announced they'll be bringing the original to PC. But what about Sony's console?

Still no dice, according to a post in the Alan Wake community forums. Remedy is self-publishing the PC version and they own the brand, but Microsoft still owns the publishing rights. Here's the post in question:

"I would like to make it clear that Microsoft funded the production of the first Alan Wake game, and while they were happy for Remedy to now self-publish on PC it is highly unlikely they would want to see the game on a competing console. While we do own the Alan Wake brand, Remedy doesn't have rights to publish THE Alan Wake on PS3. And technically it would be significantly more difficult to do than the PC version."

Yeah, we understand. If you don't have the Xbox 360, you should definitely consider playing the PC version when it arrives early next year. Alan Wake is suspenseful, well-written, and nicely paced. We're definitely looking forward to the new entry, even if it's not coming to Sony's console.

Shame, Alan Awake simply did not get the attention it deserved on the 360, just like many titles which have moved over this gen (FFXIII, Tekken 6, DMC4...) I reckon this would have easily got a platinum release in the UK, I certainly would have loved to play it.

MS even gave it way for free with 360's for a good while. A buddy of mine has an unused online voucher code for the game that he didn't care to redeem. I'm sure the code has long since expired by now.

oh, I tried getting it from him as well. He wanted $10. I offered $5 (yeah, it would've just been added to my "never get to pile") That was like a year ago.. anyway, I see the game used at Amazon for less than $10.
You're probably better off going there. Plus, MS charges a lot for HDD space.

Oh...That's too bad :(

Alan Wake was pretty much the only exclusive on Xbox that I actually liked and wanted to play....but even so, it wasn't enough to warrant purchasing a console just for one game.

At least we got Heavy Rain... >.<

AW and HR have nothing in common at all. Both are great games (I like HR better), but they don't play alike, don't have similar stories or any other similarities.

If you are able to play AW on console, do it.

But my point was that I'm not able to play Alan Wake due to not owning a 360.
As I said, I just don't think that it would make any sense to invest in a 360 when I know that I will only use it for one game. I'm not one to throw away my money readily...considering I'm still a student and all...

Anyway, I guess that was my fault for assuming that Alan Wake and Heavy Rain are similar, since I was just going off what gameplay I had seen from walkthroughs and such, and thinking that it had the same sort of approach to story-telling like Heavy Rain did :/

Don't forget about The Lost Odyssey. That game should be at the top of the list of games that PS3 owners want around here since there are a lot of JRPG fans. I was lucky enough to get a 360 for Christmas. The very first game on my list was The Lost Odyssey which I was able to find at Gamestop for $16. Can you believe that? The greatest JRPG of this gen at that price.

Alan Wake is next on my list. Then I will ofcourse play the Gears of War series.

I have seen Lost Odyssey go for 4 pounds my flat mate bought it the other day along with Nier for the same price!

I have had the fortune of playing Lost Odyssey, but I would still buy it day one on the PS3.

Yeah. I was lucky. I don't know exactly how but my sister ended up with two of them Black Friday. I got the one her boyfriend did not want I think, but it was the shiny 250gb Halo reach bundle so I guess I can't complain. I would never have bought one myself, but now that I have one I am excited to play certain titles I have missed out on. As for being upset...I will try to work on that but I doubt that will ever go away until Sony is back on top where they belong. In the meantime it's all about the games and dreaming about the possibilties of next gen. :)

So you think the Sony is not on top because of sales? Sales shouldn't be the deciding factor. Having the best games and most variety of high quality games should be the deciding factor. In my book Sony won 2011 hands down.

I'm not sure that's how I would describe it. It's more like the PS3 is the best console and should be on top. I do think sales are very important but you are correct when you state that sales should not be the only deciding factor. I agree having high qualty games with a lot variety is a major positve. I would even tend to agree that Sony won 2011 from a global perspective. The PS3 did pull an impressive 180 as well when you consider how things started so it's not all bad. I will always be pulling fo Sony to be number one.

im sure its good but i have way too many other things to look forward to.

will it come to PS3, short answer... no.

we know microsoft by now.
now if the studio isnt owned by them, they can bring the sequel but who knows.

personally dun really care if it did

Oh if I can't get the first game I don't want the sequel, they tried that with Mass Effect 2 and I'm still not buying it with all the praise it has got. That digital comic was a poor excuse of a compromise for missing out a whole game. But like Mass Effect 1 I can't see Alan Wake going on the PS3 beyond this PC release...

yea definitely,

i bought mass effect 2 its a good game but i missed out entirely on ME1 and it sux.
i feel a bit disconnected because of it, ill be getting mass effect 3 but only wen i beat part 2, which i still havent. (Another side effect to the microsoft exclusivity.)

either way, there are waaaay better games to be more excited about.
alan wake to me is just not my type of game and i just really dont care about it.

The comic was in fact lame. Also lame it was not on the disc and had to be downloaded off of PSN. An online pass for sp game. I guess AW falls into the same category as ME1...a title funded by MS. They have they publishing rights. Oh well, I have a 360 now so that's okay. You can get a 360 used for $180, and since its used you would not be supporting MS directly.

Of course Alan Wake didn't do so well on the X360. A massive majority of X360 owners are very very young, thanks for my game system Mommy young. Alan Wake would scare the hell out of them. Also, it's a more mature game for adults. If Alan Wake ever comes out on the PS3 it will have epic sales from the more mature adult install base. If your voice changes octave levels then nightmares are a very real possibility.

No. Multiplats sell higher numbers on the 360. If AW went mp it would never sell "epic" numbers. It sold a million copies and that's very good for a game like this, on any system.

Wasn't FFXIII multi plat? Did that do better on the 360 then?

Or perhaps some genres of games are indeed better spent by PS3 owners for some reason....

That is true. It's not all of them but the vast majority of them do sell better on the 360. Mass Effect 2 sold 2.1 million copies on the the 360 in its first week yet the definitve PS3 version sold a whopping 55,000 copies its first week.(source vg chartz) They have plenty of multiplats charted. It's not uncommon to see an 65/35 split. Now, I might be wrong but I think the PS3 audience would have been more receptive to AW. It's also possible they would have just flat out ignored it like they tend to ignore all of Bioware's games for some reason. Bioware defintely has a bigger following with the 360 crowd just like Square has a larger following with the PS3 crowd.

Well..I'm actually glad we won't get Alan Wake on PS3. I'm sure it would've been a port that wouldn't have done the game or the PS3 justice. Maybe down the line we might get some type of iteration of Alan Wake.

I enjoyed Alan Wake a lot. It pays to own two consoles..

Yes it does pay from your wallet, while the 360 has a few games I am interested in we have got... probaly about 5 overall I am not willing to buy a different console just for them 5 games, If I valued them more than the PS3 exclusives (Or what should be PS3 exclusives...) I would have chose the 360 over the PS3, but alas I love ev erything about the PS3 over the 360 so I have made my choice wisely on my part.

so its a compromise for ps3 users who actually want to play the game. since it bombed, kind of, on 360 and only a little put down halo/gears/cod to play our game, we'll put it on pc so the people who actually want to play and support our game can play it without getting a 360.

You missed one thing.....and now that it is on the PC it can be pirated and renamed Alan Wake and the Village Bicycle!!

I know piracy is on each system but the PC is the most pirated IMHO.

well if it is coming to pc then i will just try it on my pc sometime. i have games on my pc that i havent even gotten to. i forget i even own the games on my pc because im always on my ps3.

also the list going the other way for the 360 is so big ill let this one slide.

It truly a shame the Evil Empire was able to get their money grubbing claws into the 1st AW.

IMO, it would have done much better sales on the PS3 seeing how our fanbase tend to have a more deeper & mature passion for great games.

im really happy PCs getting it though, now only if remedy could convince M$ to allow its DLC and prequel over......

Awake Alan! Awake... for God's sake. We wait for you on the PS3...

I'll take it from Ben and try to get it for my PC laptop, now that I have a game spec laptop - even if it is not the most powerful. But as it was an upgrade from work, I am not complaining...
