PSXE Poll Update: Reader's Choice For GotY 2011 Is...

Well, we assumed Naughty Dog's latest would be extremely tough to beat.

Despite fine showings by both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City, Drake's newest adventure has claimed the PSXE Reader Choice for Game of the Year 2011.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is easily one of the generation's best; with amazing action sequences, stellar acting, unbelievably solid gameplay, and a gripping storyline, Naughty Dog once again proved why they're a cut above. It's a lot like playing a finely honed action movie with appreciated spikes of humanity and emotion. There's little doubt that Uncharted 3 will be nominated for more than a few end-of-year awards here at PSXE, but do we agree with the readers? Several titles made strong cases for that coveted "best of the best" label in 2011.

Look for those awards to go live within the next 48 hours or so. For now, let's focus on the new poll: in the spirit of looking forward with a new year, we have to ask the PS3 owners if they're still happy with their system, or if they want the next PlayStation console to launch soon. We know some gamers would be fine if the PS4 didn't launch until 2014...are you one of those gamers?

Yea Uncharted 3 is easily the best game this year.

I'm ok with whatever happens with the next console cycle. If it came tomorrow I'd get the PS4, but if it released even after 2014 im still fine with the PS3, and the games that are releasing! Still being blown away.

Yes, the next 12 months will prove there is much life left in the PS3 still. M$ are trying to jib this generation by forcing everyone's hand through an unnecessary hardware upgrade cycle that is too soon in my books.

I am happy with the PS3 as long as the AAA block buster games keep coming for it... well into the next 2 to 3 years...

I have played Skyrim much more then Uncharted 3, but Skyrim was far more unfullfilling then ND's newest masterpiece.

Tired of the PS3? Not even close.

Funny that, I felt similarly about Skyrim... just doesn't tickle my goat as it does for others...

Yeah Qubex, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Skyrim, but it just doesn't do anything for me on the story side of things.

Skyrim is my GOTY winner. No other games last year approached the hours of game time soaked into it other then Saints Row and Battlefield.

Congrats ND on U3.

As for the new vote, I'm 100 satisfied with the PS3 right now, but you can ask me once again somewhere around late 2013 or early 2014.

My personal favorite game of the year was Bulletstorm. It's a creative FPS done right, proving that games with a gun are still fun.

2011 was the year gamers were truly spoiled. I don't feel intellectually honest saying which is my favorite, as I didn't play Skyrim, MW3, nor BF3, nor completed LA Noire, as my backlog took precedence. But, I played just about everything else. And of the games I played, Uncharted 3 was the best all-rounder, though InFamous 2 was my personal favorite. Of the console shooters, R3 was most fun, though I loved KZ3 and will get back to mp at some point. But, Crysis 2 on a decent pc took the cake for me. Speaking of cake, Portal 2 was genuine, albeit short winded, fun. Oddly, that would be the best description for Arkham City and Rage, though in different ways. I'm glad I get to play all of them though. Oh, yeah, and I gotta get back to Ratchet.

I've been tempted on going super high-end for computer gaming, but a few bills have put that purchase in deferment. Still toying with it, though.

No surprise on the winner there. My favorite game on the PS3 in 2011 is Mass Effect 2. First of all Bioware is just great at creating a highly developed and richly detailed universe in this title. The PS3 version is no simple port, either. Bioware did a great job with the PS3 version. It's not perfect but as far as ports are concerned it is simply fantastic. It even has advantages over the 360 version. Great job Bioware.

Okay, about the PS4. Yes!! Bring it on. The PS3 had a decent run. It's been 5 years of ups and downs...but mostly ups lately. I am always excited about the possibilties that new hardware allows. 5 years is a lifetime in terms of computer technology. As soon as gamers start seeing footage of next gen games I have no doubt they will be very enthusastic for next gen.

Let's face it. We are probably fast approaching the limits of what this generation of consoles can do. Most games struggle to reach even 30fps and 720p. There are all kinds of sub hd games out there. Memory contraints are a problem as well. The PS3 only has 256mb of video ram, and 256mb of system ram.

There are other things that have me excited about next gen as well. There certain things about this gen that I have not liked. Multiplats have probably underperformed on the the PS3. Also, I have not enjoyed how 360 centric the market feels in NA. All that can change next gen. Sony has a lot of great devlopers lined up and I am excited to see what they can do on the PS4.

not exactly surprising.
however i have to ask whats with developers and taking the best part out of sequels lately?
what made resistance 2, killzone 2 and uncharted 2 so great?
the boss battles!
so what did every 3rd iteration of those games remove?
thats right the boss battles!
WTF!?
WHY!?
i thought the whole point of a sequel was to transfer what people like, fix what they didnt, and remove what you cant.
not remove everything people like and leave the crap as is.

Although I'm not surprised, in the least, by UC3 taking GotY honours here, I'm a bit surprised, albeit pleasantly so, that my personal GotY, Arkham City, had as good a showing as it did. = )

As for the PS4, it really doesn't matter to me when it comes out. My backlog is so full right now that I won't get it for a few years after release, regardless. He'll, after getting the MGS HD Collection for Christmas, my new goal of playing the entire series, chronologically, will take a good portion of 2012.

Lately I have gone from a "100% happy" status to "happy but can use a new ps in 2013".

This is due to the top games released late this year that I think shows the current consoles age, I am now in particular thinking of Skyrim and Battlefield. We could use a console with more ram and updated chipset now.

At the same time, the games in 2011 has been unbelievably good. If it takes THIS long for the next gen games to get to the same relative level of quality then I am in no way in any rush.
So yeah... Alternative two for me, but I sincerely hope they will overlap eachother so that 2013 too will see ps3-releases of the current quality.

You won't hear any complains from me, Uncharted 3 was absolutely jaw draopping! However my personal favourite is still Catherine :)

As for a new console... well its going to happen either this year or next, I don't think Sony want to be trailing behind like they were for the 1st year of the PS3. However I am still happy with my PS3I could see it lasting another 2 years at least.

I particularly enjoyed Crysis 2 as Crysis is my all time favourite PS3 game. Really liked KZ3,Resistance 3, Infamous 2, UC3, Gears of War 3 and BF3. Game I play the most is MW3.

I can't choose UC3 as the goty for the simple fact that every great chapter in the game was coupled with about 5 or 6 absolutely boring chapters. A lot of it feels like padding and tends to grate on the nerves as it constantly forces you to stumble around like a drunk on a timed pre-determined path.

As for the PS3, the only thing I'm tired of is the xmedia bar setup. The system works fine, but they've gotta give us a more gamer-centric menu setup. But that's minor really. They'd have to show me something rather special to get me interested in the next system.

I somewhat agree with this because I really, really didn't care for the pirate levels. They were boring to me.

I agree with the pirates section being quite boring since it really had little story to go along with it. I would say right after Drake goes on his mission to find Sully, the game becomes less story oriented and pretty two dimensional until Drake finally lands in the dessert. The ending also wasn't really up to par with the previous installments, both action wise or story wise.

I agee with all of you. Especially on predetermined path aspect. Yes there were parts of UC3 that were in fact boring. I guess we are in the minority but speaking for myself there were many times I have found myself bored whem playing UC. More so in 3 than 2.

My GOTY goes to Mass Effect 2.

I personally wouldn't go with UC3, mines would have to be Mass Effect 2 and Batman AC. Skyrim should be the game of the year, but all these quest kind of become fluff and these glitches are just plain annoying.
